🎙️New Podcast! This time we spotlight the Distinguished Men of Purpose (DMOP)! An incredible mentorship program building character, leadership, and purpose in our young men in Beaufort County Schools. Bradley Cannon shares how he brought DMOP to Chocowinity Middle School in its first year there, drawing 70+ interested boys and 64 committed members right out the gate! They focus on life lessons, perseverance, relational challenges, etiquette, academics, and student-led ownership. Sam Williams is revitalizing the program at Southside High School, now back in the building, tracking grades weekly, involving coaches, and emphasizing self-discipline, purpose, and leadership roles. These gentlemen are raising grades, boosting confidence, teaching soft skills like eye contact/handshakes, and feeding middle school boys into high school ready for career readiness & self-advocacy. My Econ students experienced The Coffee Shop simulator today! ☕📈 They ran virtual cafés, managing their own inventory, pricing, and coffee recipes. They had to also endure weather driven events that demanded their attention to maximize profits. Supply and demand came alive! Price too high, customers vanish; too low, profits drop. Real-world econ made fun. Love the reactions! "Can I please have a cold day!", "I finally made a dollar!", "I listened to the customers." It's was Great for my little Scholars! EPF class was buzzing with energy today as students dove into hands-on learning with the classic Econoland! This interactive simulation brings the circular flow of the economy to life, with my little scholars divided into Households and Businesses, selling resources, wages, and capital, then buying goods in a lively "market" setup. They were fully engaged—negotiating deals, hustling to produce "Econos-puffballs," and discovering how interconnected everything is. The room was filled with excitement ("I'm making the cash!"), smiles, "I am terrible at finances," and real "aha!" moments as they experienced economic concepts in action. More Gallery Walks for our Industrial Revolution unit, with a special focus on the technology and communications inventions that transformed the world! My scholars love these activities because they get to move around the room, discuss ideas with classmates, and engage with the visuals.
