@dpolehn Isn’t that exactly what the hip thrust does? I don’t see the need to invent a very weird and unathletic movement when we have a natural movement that happens if we just let it.

@DraperOr Push press is perfectly legitimate too. Just not the same here. I haven't looked at the physiology of it all, but my assumption is you lose some of the work on muscle groups involved at the beginning of the press when you do push press.

OHP is one of my favorite lifts. Went for 137lbs 3x5 today. Got the first two sets. Missed the last rep in the third. Always a good challenge. Sometimes the first rep goes up easy, but it rarely stays that way Hope you're all having an awesome week.

@LinkSupremacist A man strong enough to hit those lifting numbers but light enough to run a 7 minute mile (let alone 6 minute) is going to be able to do A LOT of chin ups.

@alexmassie The big mistake Sunak made was not to couple furlough with “after the crisis is over, there will be a 3 p rise in income tax in each band into the cost is repaid.” Not only would that have made people less sanguine about lockdowns, it would have shown there is no money tree.

@Hybridathlete Definitely gotta start lifting, or you’ll lose lean mass in the cut, making things worse.

If you've never lifted, your BMI is <22, and you want a better physique, you should not start with a cut. I don't care how skinny-fat you look. At a BMI of <22, you are under-muscled. If adding muscle mass is the long term goal, you need to start lifting ASAP.

Amanda Spielman's speech was brilliant. Worth bookmarking this to see if and when, in the years to come, progressives deploy precisely the arguments she describes (from about 3mins 25 onwards) to justify expanding abortion up to birth in clinical settings

The likely scenario for the average guy will be his ability to hit one (the lifts) then hit the second (the running) at the expense of his lifts to some capacity. Or you have the runner who decides to get stronger, packs on weight to hit the lifts at the expense of the running The Few, The Proud Few will maintain them both. It would be more outrageous if were were talking SUB 6 minute mile. But that 7 minute mile is pretty darn attainable unless you turbo fatted yourself Also, if they aim for These Standards and a guy goes from untrained to The Standards 1.0 and an 8 minute mile he will have also, changed his life

Thwarted in their attempts to kill people when they’re nearly dead, the political class have settled for killing people when they’re nearly born.

@sam_gzstrength My best is 20 (touching the bar to collar bone or upper chest). I weighed about 180lb, was very lean and had tiny legs (recovering from Achilles rupture). And it took lots of specific training. I was mostly lats.

How does high-intensity interval training (HIIT) compare with moderate-to-vigorous continuous training (MVICT)? Our new meta-analysis synthesises 115 RCTs (n = 3196) across populations from sedentary adults to elite athletes. DOI: bit.ly/4rJXGgt Key findings below 🧵

@SarAllyce I’ve always assumed that arm fat is something only fat and/or untrained people have. Is that wrong?
