He needed someone to help him, but he was asked to do all the creation on his own. It was utter incompetence to not develop the 2-man game between him & AlP.

@JamesPiercey11 @tayfunsvn It feels like you’re missing the fact that Reed is the ideal ‘spacing’ to put around AlP/Amen. And Amen is the ideal ‘defense’ to put around AlP/Reed. Those 3 guys SHOULD be synergistic if they are used correctly. They certainly allow us to maximize optionality of play styles.

@DrewJLarson @tayfunsvn That is fair. And I don't think we're so far from getting there. I think we need to pick 2 of Sengun/Amen/Reed to cut down those overlapping weaknesses. Surround whoever is left with spacing (Alp/Amen) or defense (Alp/Reed) and keep trying to draft "the guy"

@JamesPiercey11 @tayfunsvn Not everyone needs to shoot and defend if the schemes can cover the holes or mitigate them by providing improved play elsewhere. You are hyper focused on the top talent. I truly think you underrate the value of having a guys like Tari, Fred and Adams on the bench.

@DrewJLarson @tayfunsvn Could we be doing better? Yes, sure The idea that the right staff would make Sengun and Thompson better than SGA and Dubb, or Wemby and Harper, is pure fantasy. Our guys can't shoot. If they can, they can't defend.

@JamesPiercey11 @tayfunsvn JDub and Chet are not better than KD. I don’t think they are necessarily better than any of our top guys… they are just more well-rounded. But both guys have the same flaw as Tari, so I’m not too worried about OKC. They are beatable. Healthy Wemby is another problem altogether

@DrewJLarson @tayfunsvn Drew they've got SGA and two guys who are better than our best guy. They've got Wembanyama and Harper would prob be our franchise guy. We are outmatched. There's no developmental team in the world who's going to make our guys better than their guys.

@JamesPiercey11 @tayfunsvn Wemby is absolutely a problem. Adding Harper to him and castle was unlucky af. There is no reason to think they won’t win every year for a decade. That said, we know that’s unlikely, so the point is to be opportunistically prepared for when they have a down year or injuries.

Remember, almost nobody on this app (who wasn’t based in Turkey) thought that AlP was the best player on the team throughout the entirety of Phase 1 simply because his role had been minimized in order to successfully tank. @JamesPiercey11 I think it’s possible to make good players look worse than they are by putting them in bad roles. I also think team depth and chemistry is more important than top-end talent in today’s NBA. We blew that by accelerating the rebuild.

We overpaid dearly for a guy who was forcing his way here. Had all the leverage, but Udoka couldn’t quit his boo.
