“Camille-Chang” is one of the rarest cards in the 108 Flowers REVISED series, classified as “SA” for rarity. As suggested by its title, “Camille-Chang,” the concept for this piece reflects the images of Camille Monet, the wife of Claude Monet and the muse of his paintings. Camille, whom Monet painted with deep affection many times, is known as the model for one of his iconic works, Woman with a Parasol (La Promenade) (1875). This card also references a scene from Hayao Miyazaki’s film The Wind Rises (2013). In the film, the heroine, Nahoko Satomi, is depicted painting in the highlands of Karuizawa, struggling with a sketchbook and a hat about to be carried off by the wind—a composition that is itself a direct homage to Woman with a Parasol. Anime is everywhere- and that’s not just a catchphrase. Day by day, anime continues to spread into popular culture from its previous niche corner in Western media. Shows like One Piece, Demon Slayer, JJK, and Solo Leveling continue to impact and inspire pop culture, as the anime fandom has grown to include people of all walks of life. Sure, this past week in crypto has been pretty bloody- lots of money wiped from the macro markets as well. But personally, I’m looking ahead at the bigger picture..
