@WillSloanEsq Eddie is smiling like a man who just found out his afterparty is going to be at Club Piscopo

@steelydante This is why I get emotional whenever I listen to "You and Your Sister" - not because of the content, but hearing those two harmonise for the last time is too much. Two guys who should've gone on to make decades worth of beautiful music together, it's all so damn cruel
English

the implications of this are fascinating

non-insane automaton@steelydante
spent the last two hours curled up in bed reading a biography of alex chilton in sporadic chunks and my god there is some wild shit in here

@teethdreamer I remember being kind of obsessed with this in high school, then they cancelled it and I waited for it to become a massive cult show but it never happened. Definitely deserves a lot more love.

Beautifully paranoid conspiracy thriller. The fact it ends on a total reset cliffhanger actually enhances the text for me. The cycle continues, everything happens so much, nothing ever happens, sound & fury, etc. etc.

@DaftDoggo This is how I find out there was an XTC record for Record Store Day. I don’t even have a record player atm so it wouldn’t do me much good, but just YES to that news

@thamosdeaf The Avengers but it’s the great New Hollywood cinematographers. I’d watch the shit out of that

@reggaechristmas Big shout out to “I Only Have Eyes for You”, a strong argument for the first dream pop song
English

@MISERABLEN0W The fact is that Australia is riddled with a very eye-rolling strain of nationalism that tries to transfer a lens derived from stale archetypes and cultural concepts onto every matter, in the name of “a real Australian”. A very hollow nation, despite my love hate relationship
English

@DryToast2810 with the exception of maybe kylie none of those names would come to my mind if i were trying to list good music australia has produced
English

As an Australian, I can say it’s not the unpretentiousness that bothers me. The way that so many of our big acts can be categorised into a handful of variations of “Aussie blokes just being blokes and singing good Aussie songs for blokes” is stale.
Zack Stentz@MuseZack
Australia used to produce a lot of good music (AC/DC, INXS, Midnight Oil, Kylie...) but my thesis is that they became embarrassed by the cultural traits--unpretentiousness & easy, good-natured machismo--that made the rest of the world love them and it killed their cultural power.
English

@thamosdeaf Started doing this, not from reading the book but from a stretch of seeing performances where I was like “Now *that* is fucking Acting!” and realised it should be treated like a job title, like Doctor or Lawyer

@MISERABLEN0W Say what you want about Bowie’s “plastic soul” period but he sure did give some great work to session saxophonists over those 18 months
