AM itself is shown to be incredibly spiteful, petty and cruel. AM is very much hateful. Lol The author has confirmed this multiple times. AM hates humans for creating it and allowing it to only feel that type of suffering.

I didn't read AM as hateful, Ted is just crazy, and possibly killed the others out of his own rage and not mercy. AM didn't regard turning him into the mouthless blob creature as a punishment, but an ethical way to keep him alive, SOMA style. These are just my interpretations.
