POLICE ACTIVITY: STOLEN VEHICLE SUSPECT APPREHENDED At 12:36 p.m., Durango Police received a report of a vehicle stolen from the area of 2nd Avenue and 7th Street. Officers immediately began searching for the vehicle and received multiple FLOCK alerts placing it near the U.S. 550/U.S. 160 interchange. Officers saturated the area, and at 1:26 p.m., an officer located the vehicle. The driver fled, and at 1:36 p.m., the vehicle was found unoccupied in the area of 26000 U.S. Highway 160 West. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect after he exited the vehicle, and surveillance video later confirmed he had been inside Dietz Market. Additional witness information directed officers toward the hills behind the area, where the suspect was ultimately located and apprehended. The suspect was identified as Nicholas Rimmer, 43. This arrest would not have been possible without the assistance of FLOCK camera alerts, which played a critical role in helping officers locate the stolen vehicle and narrow the search area. We also want to thank the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputies for assisting with two drones, and C & J Gravel Co. for helping direct officers to the suspect’s location. This case highlights the value of technology, community partnership, and interagency cooperation in helping law enforcement solve crime quickly and safely.

🚧 Plot twist: US 160 is getting a glow-up. Starting March 23, CDOT will begin resurfacing US 160 from Elmore’s Corner to the High Bridge. Most work will happen overnight to reduce traffic impacts, but drivers should still expect: lane closures, traffic shifts, reduced speeds, and delays up to 15 minutes. 🕖 Work hours: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. 📍 Location: Elmore’s Corner to Durango High Bridge 📅 Timeline: March 23rd through November It may be a little inconvenient now, but future-you — and your tires — will appreciate it. Please slow down and watch for crews in the work zone. #Durango #US160 #RoadWork #TrafficAlert #CDOT #SouthwestColorado

Durango Police assist regional partners using Flock Safety network; triple homicide suspect arrested in Pagosa Springs. DURANGO, CO — At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Durango Police Department received a notification regarding a suspect vehicle that had been detected by Flock Safety cameras in the Four Corners region. Our agency immediately received the alert as part of the Flock Safety network, which enables participating agencies to rapidly share critical vehicle information across jurisdictions. Authorities believed the vehicle was stolen and may be critical to an ongoing investigation involving three suspicious deaths in Wayne County, Utah. Upon receiving the alert, Durango officers urgently accessed the Flock Safety system to review time-stamped camera detections tied to the vehicle. These detections showed the vehicle had moved through the region and appeared to be traveling toward Southwest Colorado. Additional detections showed the vehicle had already passed through Durango and seemed to be heading toward Pagosa Springs. Durango Police immediately relayed this critical information to the Pagosa Springs Police Department, the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, and the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office to support a swift, coordinated response and protect public safety. According to information the Pagosa Springs Police Department publicly released, at approximately 11:10 p.m. on March 4, 2026, the Pagosa Springs Police Department (PSPD) and Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a possible stolen vehicle related to three suspicious deaths in Wayne County, Utah. A PSPD officer located the vehicle within city limits; the vehicle was then abandoned in Centennial Park in downtown Pagosa Springs, where PSPD officers secured it. Officers then launched a manhunt for the suspect, using PSPD drones and assistance from La Plata County Sheriff’s deputies and canines, the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. PSPD further reported that at approximately 2:41 a.m., PSPD Assistant Chief Brown located a subject matching the suspect description and detained the individual, later identified as 23-year-old Ivan Miller. During a frisk, Miller was found in possession of a concealed handgun and a large knife and was arrested for possession of concealed weapons. PSPD stated that a subsequent interview linked Miller to the deaths in Utah. Miller was transported to the Archuleta County Detention Center, where he is being held on weapons charges and for Utah authorities. This incident shows how modern law enforcement technology; when paired with strong regional partnerships, helps prevent violent offenders from traveling unnoticed through our communities. It reduces the risk of further violent crime by enabling officers to identify, coordinate, and respond more quickly. Flock Safety detections do not provide real-time tracking, but they give objective, time-stamped investigative leads. These leads let officers identify patterns, determine direction of travel, and quickly share information with partner agencies to intervene sooner and stop additional harm before it occurs. “Violent offenders don’t take a break, and they don’t stay in one place. They can pass through a town like Durango and continue hurting people until they’re caught. We’ve used the Flock Safety network before to locate homicide suspects moving through our community, and this case is another clear example of how technology and partnerships help us act faster to prevent further violence.” — Chief Brice Current This remains an active investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Pagosa Springs Police Department via dispatch at 970-731-2160.

🎉🚓 Congratulations to Officer Caitlin Bills! 🚓🎉 Please help us congratulate Officer Caitlin Bills on successfully completing Field Training and officially becoming a solo-capable officer! That means the training wheels are off, the clipboard critiques are over, and she’s now cleared to take on the road on her own. Completing FTO is no small feat—it takes hard work, dedication, resilience, and the ability to learn fast under pressure. Officer Bills has put in the work, risen to the challenge, and earned this milestone every step of the way. We’re proud of you, Officer Bills, and excited to see all the great work you’ll continue to do for the Durango community. Congratulations, and stay safe out there! 💙👏 #DurangoPD #Congratulations #FTOComplete #ProtectServeCare

❄️ Winter Weather Alert — Durango (Tomorrow, Feb 17) ❄️ Heads up, Durango: winter is planning a little drive-by. What we’re seeing: Snow🌨️shows up overnight: starting around 1 AM, with another round around 5–6 AM. Morning🌄may be slick: snow/flurries linger into the early morning commute (roughly 6–7 AM). On-and-off❄️flurries midday: flurries possible again around noon–2 PM. Temps🌡️hover in the mid-30s early, warming to about 40–43°F in the🧊afternoon—translation: melty by day, refreeze risks by night. What to do (so tomorrow doesn’t become a “why me” montage): Slow🦥down and give extra space—especially bridges, shaded spots, and hills. Clear🧹all the snow off your vehicle (yes, the roof too… don’t gift-wrap the🚘guy behind you with an icy surprise). Leave⏰early and plan for extra stopping distance. If 🚶you’re walking: tiny steps = big brain (sidewalks can be sneaky). Stay warm, stay patient, and remember: 4WD helps you go… it does not help you stop. 🥶🚗

Peaceful, Lawful Protest in Durango The Durango Police Department supports the community’s right to peacefully assemble and express viewpoints—no matter the message. The First Amendment protects lawful protest, and we want everyone to be able to exercise those rights safely. A lawful protest is typically: • Peaceful (no threats, fighting, vandalism, or property damage) • Non-obstructive (don’t block traffic or pedestrians where required) • Respectful of boundaries (stay out of restricted areas; follow lawful directions) • Safe (no items intended to harm others) Where you can protest: • Sidewalks and public parks are common places for protest activity. • Streets/intersections generally can’t be blocked without proper authorization/permits. • Private property (including many parking lots and business entrances) requires the owner’s permission. If you’re unsure whether a location needs a permit or has restrictions, contact the City in advance. Tips to stay peaceful and protect your rights: • Have a plan: meeting spot, start/end time, point person • De-escalate: don’t engage with hecklers; create space and keep moving • Stay with your group, especially after dark • Keep entrances/exits clear (businesses, driveways, sidewalks, emergency access) • Keep it safe: don’t throw objects, tamper with vehicles, or climb structures/signals • You may record in public spaces—don’t interfere with others or active response A protest may become unlawful if it involves: • Violence or threats • Property damage/graffiti • Blocking roadways or preventing movement • Trespassing • Interfering with emergency services • Ignoring lawful dispersal orders If you attend: wear weather-appropriate clothing, bring water/meds, and keep your phone charged. If you see someone trying to escalate to violence or damage, create distance and report it. Emergency: 911 Non-emergency dispatch: 970-385-2900 Our shared goal: a safe community where people can speak freely, be heard, and go home safely.

Tonight’s celebration checklist (the “wake up happy tomorrow” edition): ✅ Plan a sober ride (DD, rideshare, friend) ✅ No drinking & driving — not even “just a couple blocks” ✅ No celebratory gunfire — bullets come down somewhere, and people can get hurt (and you can absolutely catch charges) ✅Keep an eye out for pedestrians and folks walking home 🚨 Emergency: 9-1-1 📞 Non-emergency dispatch: 970-385-2900 From all of us at the Durango Police Department: Celebrate smart. At noon on Tuesday the 16th multiple officers responded to the area for a report that a male subject had threatened the reporting party with a firearm. The reporting party stated the subject had a gun “hidden in his pocket.” Officers searched the area but were unable to locate or contact the subject. Officers also reviewed video from North City Market. The footage did not capture any altercation, but it did show the reporting party entering the store afterward, grabbing a drink, and casually chatting with an employee—more “quick errand” than “just got threatened.” With no additional witnesses, no evidence captured on video, and behavior that did not align with the reported threat, officers determined there was not probable cause for an arrest. Reminder: Not every call is as straightforward as it sounds. Sometimes stress, fear, or mental health struggles can change how someone experiences—or reports—an event. If you or someone you know needs support, Durango has local resources available, and it’s always okay to reach out for help.
