Dusty’s FieldPrinter is sneakily one of the most scaled robotics applications outside of automotive assembly and self driving cars. Proud to have been one of their first investors.

This is a multi-billion dollar business Dusty robotics just invented a new tool that every single construction company will end up buying Just like a Roomba, it drives around, but it’s not cleaning, instead it’s printing the floor plan on to the slab. So simple, so powerful

@HeyZoyaKhan @AswadPune Exactly; with Dusty, contractors accurately print their model / drawings with 1/16" accuracy, in their full detail.

@AswadPune The blueprint on paper is for imagining and aligning in design. But once you’re on-site, accuracy matters more than imagination.

This is a new multi-billion-dollar business and a big disruption in construction. Dusty Robotics built a robot that roams the site and prints floor plans directly on concrete with stunning precision. No chalk lines. No tape measures. Just perfect layouts in hours.

@shitpost9000 @kimmonismus Now we have; let us know if you want to give it a try! Saves backs and knees, in addition to being faster and more accurate than manual layout.

It is often the small developments that achieve great things: Dusty Robotics is demonstrating a small robot field printer designed to automate construction layout by printing floor plans directly onto the ground in the building site.

@PaulSmithDM @kimmonismus Yes! The robot maintains its exact location with 1/16" accuracy, and if it gets bumped or loses state, it stops printing, and the iPad shows what got printed and what didn't.

@kimmonismus That is great. Curious, if anyone knocks it out of place, can it locate where it last was and start again where it left off?

@communicating @kimmonismus Going from the Turtle app to 1/16" accuracy on real construction jobsites across North America turns out to be a real challenge our team had to solve first!

@kimmonismus I also helped my niece build something like this for her 3rd grade science project. We used logo for the turtle graphics feature. It was a fun project but this is brilliant. Never would’ve thought of it. Know your industry I guess. Wonder if they built on Logo? 🤔😀

@ateyrovsky @LinusEkenstam The founders of the company (not me) have appeared on Podcasts, but I don't have any links handy at this time. You can probably do a search for Dusty Robotics on YouTube or other places and see what pops up.

@DenisMu63652603 @LinusEkenstam A total station will shine a light on where a layout point needs to be; this will actually print all the points, text, and lines directly on the slab!

@LinusEkenstam I'm hoping that, too. A device like this should enter "shop maintenance required" when it cannot guarantee that the guidance is correctly printed. There shouldn't be even an option "just print anyway" after the calibration is not perfect.

@stevehaag81 @LinusEkenstam The slab just has to be broom-swept; same as if you're doing traditional chalk lines or marking points with a total station.

@JohnRaineri0 @LinusEkenstam We'd love to show you what we can do on jobsites right now -- Dusty as close as to 1.5" from the edge of slab, and most of our customers find us both faster and cheap than manual layout.

@LinusEkenstam I agree it will be the future but price point isn’t there yet. Carpenters layout is still faster, cheaper, and more accurate… Dusty also fails at slab edges. It will be there soon but haven’t seen it work great financially yet

@Kristapher100 @LinusEkenstam We'd love to show you what we can do; the human (superintendent or foreman) still can and SHOULD use this as a way to QA/QC the model based on what's printed on the ground and check for any clashes or inconsistencies.

@LinusEkenstam This could be helpful but generally the framers lay the lines for the layout and its alot better to work with a human. They can notice errors which the people who make the plans do frequently make. I dont think this is as big a deal as people are making it out to be.
