As bad as things are today, it seems to me like we are winning. Labor and the rest of the political establishment would have loved to have brought on the heavy hand of state under the cover of the latest government induced crisis. The fuel shortage – a crisis they spent more than a fortnight denying, has finally hit home. They can’t hide it anymore. We can all see it. Empty pumps and ridiculous prices. The perfect opportunity to go full COVID. Fuel rationing, 11am briefings and all of the rest of the theatre is their go to. Manage a crisis, borrow and waste money. It’s all they really know how to do. But something is different this time. Too much of the public has already lost faith in the media, and the man ladies in suits. We don’t trust them anymore, and more and more of us don’t like them either. Many are very aware of the fact that successive governments have run down our sovereign capabilities. They’ve sold off critical infrastructure, they’ve run down industry, and made it impossible to do business here. Most of our heavy industry is gone. What’s left is failing or propped up by taxpayers. We shouldn’t be dependent on anyone for energy security, that is something we had decades ago. We can have it again. We just need better government. Much better government. So instead of wasting more of our taxes and borrowings on bad ideas, managing the crisis that they caused, this time, they will actually invest public money into securing fuel. Underwriting the purchase of liquid fuels, to increase the supply here in Australia. It is the first time the government has not punished the citizens for their mistakes that I can remember. It’s the first time they haven’t run to more inane legislation in my lifetime. It’s the first step to lifting Australia out of the deep mess we are in. But it is only the first step. I hope it is executed well, and that we have an abundance of fuel again. I wish them the best of luck. Much more must be done to rebuild this nation and make the country viable again but at least we might have fuel in the tanks to work that through. I just want Australia back.

Just nothing.
