@BalesBets Getting to the ball ripped out of your hands and fumbling are also not the same. Willingly overlooking that variable is disingenuous at best. Cooks dropping that ball is a hell of an assumption to stake as fact to make it seem like your argument begins from a position of fact.

One way to think about this I’m sure has been said but I haven’t seen…
If there were no defender at all and Cooks just lost possession of the ball on his own (at the same time he did in the actual play), would it matter he controlled the ball while his knee/body was down?
No, it would be clearly incomplete as he didn’t maintain possession through the entire act.
The defender taking the ball acts the same as Cooks losing possession on his own in this case.

I understand why Bills fans don't want to understand why it's not a catch. They're emotional and invested. It's natural. They're quite literally coping. I genuinely don't understand how anyone who is not a Bills fan does not understand that Cooks didn't survive the ground. It does not matter that for a fraction of a second his knee is down, and he was touched. That's not the rule. The moment he hit the ground, he lost control, and the ball wound up in McMillian's arms.

@tjmcaulay The problem is you hide behind the rules with this smug arrogance about your knowledge of the rulebook, BUT on any given gameday they are applied differently. THAT is a fact. Protecting calls made by officials is one thing, acting like everyone else is dumb is another.

A player going to the ground to catch a pass must maintain control during and after contact with the ground. That’s the rule. Apply accordingly.
