New: DC is cutting pay rates for childcare workers to keep its pay equity fund under budget. But pretty much no one is happy about it. Most of the Council hates this idea. And daycare workers certainly do. So why is this happening, and what could anyone do about it?

DC has the highest costs for child care in the country. The child care subsidy program helps 7,000+ families afford care, but only half of child care facilities in the District participate in the program.

Violent crime in DC has been steadily trending down for decades and fell to a multi-generational low in 2024. Every single article covering whatever the administration does this week should mention that fact and highlight the data.

Instead of being fiscally responsible, ever. The manufactured impact of “fare evasion” (based on some kind of estimate) is purely a distraction meant to scare us more than the dumpster fire history and continuous threat of horrendous fiscal mismanagement (of public funds) a police force that made racial profiling and targeted interactions a literal game, and terrible treatment of workers and other labor failures. Metro should be free for all.

BREAKING: Metro GM Randy Clarke just announced the week after Thanksgiving Metro will launch an effort to go after fare evasion on Metrobus. It will involve uniformed & undercover police and video. Clarke says #wmata will focus on the lines with the “lowest compliance” on fares.

Social exclusion makes it harder for people who use drugs to find the support they need. We must ensure a good quality of life for everyone.

Even after being tried and convicted of killing us, police continue to receive special treatment. For over a century, this country has enacted thousands of reforms, introduced countless hours and new types of training, expanded mental health support, and promoted community policing by having officers work in the neighborhoods they come from. Yet, we always end up in the same place. POLICE EVERYWHERE. JUSTICE AND SAFETY NOWHERE. Policing is rooted in a system of power and control., where police officers are given a lot of authority over the public. This power is rarely held in check because the system was designed with very little oversight. The system of policing is not broken. Its working exactly the way it was designed.
