A clear D2 role beats a fake D1 dream.

I believe that to truly become an elite competitor, an athlete needs one or more people in their life to test them: Physically, Emotionally, and Psychologically - to a level the athlete cannot imagine. The caveat: That person cannot be your mother or father.

D1 = 6am lifts D2 = 6am lifts D3 = 6am lifts JUCO = 6am lifts NAIA = 6am lifts The level changes… the work doesn’t.

Stop letting your best player set the lowest standard. The most dangerous thing in any program is a talented player with unchecked character.

Stop coaching outcomes. Coach behaviors. Outcomes are unpredictable. Behaviors are trainable. Build the behaviors and trust the outcomes to follow.

Brutal truth: The kid with average film who emails 200 coaches gets more offers than the kid with great film who emails zero coaches. Distribution beats perfection. Market yourself or stay home.

Your legacy as a high school coach won’t be measured by wins and losses. It’ll be measured by the player who comes back years later to say: “Coach, you changed my life.”

Most athletic thing I’ve seen in a while

As an AD, I’ve learned most parents believe sports teach accountability along with many other lessons. That belief sometimes changes when the accountability affects their own child directly.

Give me the kid who fights back tears while painfully shaking the winner’s hand. The one who hides his face and sobs quietly on the bus because losing rips his heart out. The kid whose hurt drives him to get back to work. Losing never hurts losers, it only hurts winners

A lot of recruiting opportunities start with a high school coach advocating for one of his players. Making calls. Driving kids to camps. Pushing their film to the right programs. That work doesn’t get much attention. But it changes lives.
