I'm Ukrainian. I explore the intersection of technology, history, and the lived experience of this conflict through the lens of those who are shaping it.

Ukraine’s drone war is evolving faster than anywhere else on Earth. The Ukrainian SOKIL UAV may represent the birth of a new class of cheap reconnaissance drones. In this video: SOKIL, FPV interceptor drones, and how Ukraine is rewriting the rules of the sky. #Ukraine #Drone

🚨#Ukrainian Su-27 drops JDAM-ER bombs from an altitude never seen before. 🎧Turn on the sound and watch. First time released from 11,000 m (36,000 ft). This is possible due to heavy degradation of #Russian air defenses. Everything is changing in Ukraine’s favor in the skies.

Ukraine does not have any formidable defense line beyond the “Fortress Belt” in Donbas. Everyday, the inevitable collapse of the AFU nears. Tick tock!

@Maks_NAFO_FELLA As I understand this was done by the new version of the FP-2 drones, which have a 200-kg warhead. Wow! Just imagine—they cost less than 50 thousand dollars. And they’re being produced in quantities of at least dozens a day. x.com/EdFromUkraine/…
Ed from Ukraine@EdFromUkraine

Chief designer Fire Point @DenShtilierman moved fuel tanks FP-2 drones from the fuselage to the wings. This significantly increased warhead weight. Max version: 200 kg (440 lb) warhead with 370 km (230 miles) range. Essentially a precision replacement for 500 lb bombs.

@bayraktar_1love This animated series was shown in Ukraine in the 1990s. I wonder if the title has anything to do with this drone. 🐝🛩️

Modified Ukrainian Maya decoy drones struck a concentration of Russian trucks in Donetsk, destroying more than 20. Originally developed as a decoy to saturate Russian air defenses, this appears to be the first documented use of the Mayaas a guided strike drone.

Canada is supplying Ukraine with drone training, Ukraine is sharing that training with Mexican Cartels via the Ukrainian International Legion Intelligence agencies, including Mexico’s National Intelligence Center and Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), have confirmed that cartel-linked operatives and former special forces have infiltrated the Ukrainian International Legion . The Canadian Armed Forces have continually provided drone training to Ukrainian forces as part of ongoing multinational military efforts, including the multinational Drone Capability Coalition Canada govt is de facto allied with the Mexican Cartels. metro.co.uk/2026/02/25/car…

🇺🇦 Zelensky: For the second time, our sanctions reached Ufa oil refinery. The distance is over 1,300 kilometers from the front line. Also in the Penza region, our weapons have reached a strategic facility of the Russian military-industrial complex, which is engaged in the development and production of components for missile weapons. The distance to the target is about 600 kilometers from the front line.

Strike on NIIFI factory in Penza today — key Roscosmos defense plant. Produces sensors for Kh-101, Bulava, Iskander missiles, Su-34/Su-57 aircraft & military systems.Important part of Russia’s war industry. Judging by the sound — this was a cruise missile.

@BrennpunktUA @Exilenova_plus The siren in the Bryansk region is not necessarily related to an attack on the Moscow region. “Missile threat” is an alert term. It also refers to drones.

The site where one of the missiles landed in the Moscow Region. It’s hard to say whether it was shot down or fell short, but the warhead is powerful enough for that distance.

@STUDIOP46160164 @Osinttechnical Fire Point will be stockpiling FP-7 missiles for the winter to strengthen Ukraine's air defense against missile attacks (Freya project). So it's not even certain that a ballistic FP-7 variant will be developed.

To even any casual observer, Ukrainian strikes have been having a higher and higher impact over time. It is due to many factors, including better planning and destruction of Russia's missiles defenses. A major driver comes from larger warheads. Earlier drone strikes used warheads in the few tens of kilograms of explosives. While enough to damage a small pipe or other metal object, these lacked the punch to hit through thicker steels and concretes that are part of factories and other infrastructure. Basically, they could damage a specific target if they hit it but needed a direct strike. Missing by a few feet or on the other side of a wall would cause minimal damage. Repairs could be made quickly. The FP-1 drone with its ~2,600 km range was an upgrade with a 60 kg warhead (explosive plus blast frag or other material). To give perspective, the U.S. Mk 81 250 lb general purpose bomb has about 44 kg of explosive plus blast material. The U.S. mostly stopped using those after the Vietnam War as they were not effective enough and called "the firecracker". The U.S. switched to the 500 lb class Mk 82 general purpose bomb for its first choice for damaging fixed targets. It has 87 kg of explosive. Depending on the target type that increased the damage/kill radii by 30% to 50%. That translates to a 70% to 125% increase in blast area. This small shift greatly increase the acceptable error in missing and was sufficient to significantly damage most basic structures or at least enable the follow-on bomb to do damage. To address this, Firepoint introduced the FP-2 with a 105 kg warhead (not all is explosive) but at a range of only 200 km. This year, the FP-1 was upgraded to 105 kg of explosive but with added fuel to reach further targets. The FP-2 was upgraded to 158 kg of payload. Warheads can be shaped to direct the blast in one area versus the Mk 80 series bombs with a more radial profile. This plants Ukraine's munitions squarely in the blast category of first choice western explosives. The Ukrainians also introduced the Begemot (picture below) with much greater range than an FP-2. It also has a two-stage warhead. The first blasts through the target, the second a thermobaric charge. This does significantly more damage at it can damage the outer layer of a target exposing it to the thermobaric heat and pressure of the second. So if you wondered why Ukrainian strikes have been so much more effective and Russia is taking longer to repair the damage, these larger warheads are a major factor. As they are still coming online, expect more. Image via @United24media

@RealJakeBroe 2/ ...an FP-2 drone variant with a 200 kg (440 lb) warhead. Those are the current priorities. This drone is several times cheaper than the FP-7 and has a longer range. So it's not even certain that a ballistic FP-7 variant will be developed. @RealJakeBroe

Russia has declared a state of emergency for Crimea as the peninsula is without fuel and power and the civilian population is desperate to flee back to the mainland. Ukraine successfully struck two more oil refineries in Yaroslavl and Krasnodar Krai. A defense production plant in Volgograd was destroyed by three FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles.
