The West Door at King's College Chapel was opened especially for me tonight so I could take this picture of the sunset over the wildflower meadow - which was nice :) and if you look closely you can see the college cat!

Epic run indeed! Nina was my only hire at Nat Geo, and what a hire. She's a kickass reporter and an exquisite writer, just one of the talented journalists lost in these layoffs; we were a formidable team and we had fun. (I'm out too, but staying 'thru Sept. 1 to finish projects.)

Today marks the last day for all of National Geographic's staff writers and many of their brilliant editors.
I'm so proud of all the work I've done with these talented people, and know they'll all land on their feet. But it's a sad day for journalism...

It’s been an epic run, @NatGeo. My colleagues and I were unbelievably lucky to be the last-ever class of staff writers—certainly the coolest job I’ll ever have, and possibly among the coolest to ever exist. Now onto the next thing! Open to all weird/fun/interesting ideas.

A seasonal ritual at the @NatGeo HQ is watching the geese who nest in the planted terraces of our building. It's a great spot for keeping predators away from eggs, but a too-long drop for the goslings, so some humans help. Enjoy!
