Base-difference images of the M2.7 CME which is likely heading towards Earth. You can tell without coronagraph images by the way the blast wave travels out in all directions from the source region which is in the Earth-strike zone (roughly +/- 30 deg longitude). There is the coronal hole to the west of the active region which may create some interesting effects in the CME's propagation. The good thing for aurora chasers is that the blast wave had a bias towards the northwest in the direction of the Sun-Earth line. I anticipate NOAA SWPC will release some kind of geomagnetic storm watch due to this eruption once it is modeled. I will provide updates on the SWPC predictions/models and the NASA M2M model when it is released (they are usually the first to come out with something). If there is a G2 or higher watch, that will trigger me to send an aurora alert email. These emails are comprehensive breakdowns of space weather events with a focus on the necessary information for aurora chasing. go.theauroraguy.com/alerts
