Can't believe Gardai put up with this level of abuse in Ireland. This loutish behaviour wouldn't be tolerated anywhere else in the Western world. The offender should've been removed from the truck, handcuffed & thrown in a cell. Fuel protests Ireland.

I had a busy day today, but I finally made it up to O'Connell Street to meet with the protesters for Day 5. It was great to see some familiar faces from Meath, Cavan, and Louth. I had a wee chat with James Geoghegan. I hope he is well compensated by the media for defaming him. The atmosphere there is great: Gardaí on the ground are pleasant, and traffic is flowing—only O'Connell Street is blocked. Traffic on the Quays is flowing too. Hopefully, this government will put an end to these countrywide protests tomorrow with a package that benefits everyone. Keep it peaceful. #FuelProtests #MakeWorkPay

This is being ignored by many - I suspect because they don't want to hear it, while Paddy Cosgrave has put a lot of effort into trying to delegitimise it. That in itself is reason to take this very seriously and I sincerely hope the government is doing the same.

I gave a statement to @gardainfo today regarding threats made against my family. While intimidation of journalists isn't brilliant for democracy and I'm happy to sustain an abundance of personal abuse, a line has to be drawn when someone's family is targeted.

@LarsSeneca In some ways it reminds me of the 2020 general election when a lot of people who were supposedly horrified by SFIRA violence were suddenly prepared to vote SF because they thought they might get some freebies.

Oh the "respectable" sort are only too happy to let a group of violent thugs hold this country to ransom if it means getting one up on the government. This episode has shone a light on the true character of many.
