You heard of carbon offsets, now there's plastic offsets. Here at the plastic treaty talks in Ottawa, the World Bank & Verra (the biggest carbon credits certifier) are discussing growing this new market. #INC4 We've been investigating it. Our new story: unearthed.greenpeace.org/2024/04/26/dan…

@EmmaEHoward Um. I think I have an account! I tried it for a bit and didn’t want to it. But it does seem like things are increasingly shifting over there…

If you're flooded, you can apply for a government grant to help you recover. But make sure you're in the right local authority, can pay upfront and hope enough other locals are affected this time (& not too many were in the past) new by @JSandlerClarke unearthed.greenpeace.org/2024/09/30/flo…

the IPCC says lab-grown meat can be a climate solution — but in Europe there’s a movement to have it banned. i looked into it and found an influential lobbying effort fronted by a beef industry executive & funded by livestock interests unearthed.greenpeace.org/2024/07/30/cul…

I would love to see something similar to @uproot_project in the U.K. but have struggled to count the number of climate journalists of colour in the U.K. while there are over 700 in the U.S. 🥲 If you exist out there and see this but I don’t know you, I’d love to connect 🌱

Some personal news, as they say! It’ll be tough leaving @IPPR as I’ve loved leading a fantastic team with huge impact. But I’m honoured & excited to be asked to help shape and deliver such a critical policy agenda at the heart of the new government. Can’t wait to get stuck in!

Congratulations to @carysroberts & @rachelstatham_ who have both been recruited into the Downing Street Policy Unit! We're sad to see them go, but delighted to announce that @harry_qp has been appointed interim executive director. @Voa1234 | ippr.org/media-office/i…

So when we looked just at sites assessed in the last six years, we found that 81% of the sites the government says are in "favourable condition" have not been assessed in that time period. And only a quarter of sites are in good condition - not a third.

This graph shows when sites were last assessed. Notice anything? A quarter of sites haven't been assessed since the Conservative government came to power in 2010.

Last week I went to England's longest chalk stream-a protected area & one of the world's rarest habitats. It's stunning, but suffering. We analysed recent data on England's most precious nature sites & found three quarters are in a bad way. Our latest: unearthed.greenpeace.org/2024/06/26/eng…
