Jane Goodall was one of a few people to earn a PhD without an undergraduate degree. It was thought that her lack of formal academic training would allow her to remain unbiased by traditional thought and study the chimps with an open mind. It worked. ❤️

WWF joins the world in mourning the loss of Dr. Jane Goodall, a voice of hope, compassion, and courage for our planet. She reminded us that when we come together, we can shape a better future for people, wildlife, and the natural world we share. Let’s celebrate her life and honour her legacy with the same determination and love she lived by. Together, we can carry her vision forward. #JaneGoodall #ForNature #TogetherPossible

In 1960, Dr. Jane Goodall’s early fieldwork observing chimpanzees at Gombe Stream Game Reserve, in Tanganyika (now Tanzania), unveiled groundbreaking research of shared behaviors between humans and apes. The Jane Goodall Institute announced on October 1, 2025, that Jane Goodall died at 91. A primatologist, conservationist, animal advocate, educator, and National Geographic Explorer, her work revolutionized our understanding of the natural world.

UNESCO 🏛️ #Education #Sciences #Culture 🇺🇳
“We need to collaborate, we need to get together, we need countries and individuals to work together to make this a better world so that we can be a little bit proud of what we leave for our children.” — Dr. Jane Goodall, UNESCO, 19 October 2024. Dr. Jane Goodall delivered these words at @UNESCO in a historic address before a thousand young activists, decision makers and scientists. Today, we pay tribute to a woman who changed history: Dr. Jane Goodall. A pioneer whose life was devoted to the protection of nature, the sharing of knowledge, and the respect for all living beings. At #UNESCO, she stood before the world with a message of hope, reminding us that our future depends on caring for gorillas, for wildlife, and for our common Earth. Her words were simple yet profound: hope lies in action, and each of us holds the power to protect the fragile web of life that sustains us. For generations to come, she will remain proof that another world is possible. Her passing is an immense loss — and also a renewed call to action.

Is the Cotswolds the UK's loveliest holiday destination, or is it better to seek quieter, more authentic experiences elsewhere? Nice to chat about this with Jane Garvey on @TimesRadio today. My tips - try wild, heritage-rich Wales or sunny, under-rated Northumbria. Why not?
