I visit Nigeria almost every 6 months and I’m not used to making a post about my stay till I leave but this one really needs to be done because there’s a need. I want to rant here and share the present reality of stuff. (Please don’t ask me about my present location) I'm a heavy data user. In the UK, I pay for unlimited which costs me £38 every month. (£10 for the house and £28 private) I spend most of my time on YouTube watching one stuff or the other. I sleep with music on and the music is played straight from YouTube from 12 am until I wake up in the morning, then I'm active on Facebook. These are the 2 apps that consume my data more than others. If I'm to guess the data l use every month, I'd say maybe 50GB. Now in Nigeria, just 6 days in Nigeria 28GB is gone. I don't spend my time on YouTube and Facebook because I'm always busy. I don't sleep with music all through because the network will interrupt it, yet 28GB is gone. 28GB costs me N12,000. Selling me 28GB for less than a week is insane. I don't do anything else apart from respond to WhatsApp messages and occasionally visit YouTube and come here and 28GB is gone. In the UK when I used to subscribe to 30GB for £10, I know where it takes me, just close to a month, now 28GB is stopping on the way within one week. MTN is definitely mad!! They should review their GB capacity and durability. To live a basic lifestyle in Nigeria now is already a luxury. The shortest distance of 2 minutes drive on a bike, they asked me to pay N300. From Rukpokwu to Mile 3, I used shortcuts because of the bad road and I spent almost N2000 on Keke and buses. It was raining, and I entered Uber from Rukpokwu to Artillery, N7500. I was hungry and decided to get something at Kilimanjaro, rice, salad, chicken, water and medium-sized Hollandian yoghurt, and I was billed N10k something. I ended up not eating it and gave it away to someone who needed it more than I do. The normal street food is about N3k. Fuel? I fuel N30K almost everyday on my car and N10k on the generator. I'm doing all these to keep up with a basic lifestyle not that I'm living in luxury. I went to the hospital to do my all-around checkups and I ran about 9 different tests that cost N100k+ and the following day I was asked to use my phone and snap my result or pay N200 each to print it for me which cost me N1900. This is not right and unfortunately, criminality has gone up. Dentist visits are doubled in price. The hardship in this Country is on another level. This is my second visit this year but this period is worse. I get visitors and something leaves my pocket more than before. How are people surviving here?
