The main reason a lot of people want the stuff they enjoy to go mainstream is so they don't feel like nerds for liking that thing. They want all of the normies to accept them. But this also comes with the caveat of making fundamental changes to that thing to make it more palatable to the "wider audience". New people come into a space, with different ideas and perceptions, and then demand that the thing change to suit their tastes. Many of them don't really like the thing the same way you do, they like it because it's a trend.

Getting mad over new people enjoying an anime that you’ve been watching since you were little is weird. Wouldn’t you want more people to enjoy something you enjoy too????

There just needs to be an entirely new industry built, but the problem is it runs very counter to American corporate culture. Fundamentally, there'd have to be an industry where the primary thing being sold is the story, and have frequent releases and creator driven stories just like manga. Print on cheap paper. Don't treat comics like collectors items. Get comics into gas stations and Walmarts. Sell big volumes of good stories. But American corporations want comics as just marketing tools where large teams of people create what's demanded up top without clear vision. Capeshit has to go. Legacy brands have to go. Find dudes who have interesting stories and sell those.

What I’m saying is… it doesn’t matter if the quality improves. It’s too late. The infrastructure has been broken. The fans have walked away. You can’t just flip a switch and turn the comic book industry back on. No. I don’t have a solution. Just pointing out the obvious.

When the comic books start to get better. But the industry has already cooked itself beyond repair.
