Every decision was a reaction to russian escalation, never prevention, and always came much too late. Having said that, it's of course miles above Trump.

Playing devil’s advocate here, my friend. When wasn’t there a Russian-aligned figure serving as president of Ukraine after independence—excluding President Zelenskyy? Name the year. When did that actually change? I ask because no American president, nor any Western European leader, would have meaningfully assisted Ukraine without an invitation from its government. While the people may have leaned West, the government did not. Russia ensured this outcome by normalizing corruption at every level of Ukrainian governance. President Clinton, along with Russia and the United Kingdom, signed the Budapest Memorandum—and the operative word is memorandum. It was not a legally binding treaty. Both Russia and the Ukrainian president at the time (a Russian operative in all but name) knew exactly what they were doing: no treaty, no legal obligation—only a memo. Biden may be many things, but he was not a traitor. He also was the absolute best Ukraine would get from my country. He was a decent man who did not like nor trust Russia. To continue to disparage him harms us all presently and in future. Attitudes like the ones you’re expressing helped create chaos and emboldened MAGA narratives that promised Trump would be “stronger.” That was propaganda—designed to weaken resolve and peel off just enough voters to oppose Biden. Trump allegedly won by less than 2%. Just as with Brexit in the UK, Russian propagandists used Ukraine and Gaza to manufacture the perception that the Biden administration was unstable. That perception fractured Democratic support by a narrow margin—and it worked, masterfully. Returning to the memorandum: it created a moral responsibility, not a legal one. At no point was the U.S. or the West going to start a direct war with Russia over its former associates in Ukraine.
