English people are so culturally illiterate they don’t even know what college stadiums are. These stadiums are filled entirely with college students who are the heart and soul of their community. The stadiums the euros love are just tourist wastelands with no atmosphere. British people for real think the only sport in the us is the NFL

I’m not near old enough to know what it was like back then, but yeah it’s pretty insane even for Americans. Even crazier is the Baltimore colts. They picked up and moved to Indianapolis overnight in the 80’s. Still dumbfounding to most people. The NFL is a money printer for all the owners and most have been bought by people who can afford them now. What I mean by that is there a certain families who have owned teams for 100 years and never made money outside of the team. They are often the ones who pick up and move when the support or money in a city stops flowing in. It truly is odd and a bit shit in all honesty but not much of a concern anymore for most major teams. Some cities couldn’t care less though and the support is mediocre. Huge difference between panthers fans who are a newish team in a smaller city and a team like the eagles in Philadelphia.

@Europoorupset It might be unique I just feel there’s no proper community feel to that team Oakland to vegas isn’t that crazy but like dodgers moving from Brooklyn to LA in like the 50 or 60s whenever it was like your moving from across the country I’m just curious more then anything

@Europoorupset This happens in British football aswell. Its pretty normal and hopefully maintained throughout the world cup. Just as it is premier league and championship and league 1 British football.

Relocating is certainly a phenomenon that’s unique to the US. Kind of goes back to a team being regional. The raiders for example moving from Oakland to Vegas isn’t really crazy if you think about everyone in Vegas was probably a raiders fan anyway. Teams moving is mostly political, when every team has a 1 billion dollar stadium it requires the local governments to be involved and often times finance it in part or in full and then the teams pay the governments back. When a team moves it’s because they won’t build them a stadium and at that point it’s often very expensive to upkeep these old dying stadiums. New stadiums in the NFL are, no pun intended, a new phenomenon. NFL revenue grew from 4 billion to 25 billion since 2000.

@Europoorupset Yeah true I mean i watch American sports too I don’t like the fact teams can just relocate tho that’s the only downside to American sports but honestly it’s been a good few days I’m still excited for the World Cup although England will probably break my heart again anyways 😂

@dpmurphy121 Both of my football teams college and NFL are rebound for being bottom of the barrel losers (I’ve seen 0 combined championships in my life and neither have ever won one) Sounds like I’d fit right in at reading 🤣

It’s all banter twitter isn’t real lol. I’m glad it’s happening never in my life have I seen so many people engaging with the World Cup. Have had friends who call soccer gay say they are going to watch just to hate watch the countries talking shit. What people coukd do better to understand out sports culture actually is understand we are a multi sport country. NFL is king but still plenty who don’t care for it and prefer baseball basketball or hockey. All of those sports have their own flair and are much closer to the homegrown style of soccer. I can walk to my local cities nba arena with bars all around it in about 10 minutes. It’s not just the NFL over here.

Felt that was at United, Chelsea was just tourists which to be fair I was one too. Was at a Fulham derby game ( shockingly rich history of Americans) and was hoping to avoid the plasticness of it. Was pretty disappointed, the Fulham away fans were class though they were having a blast. They would be my prem team if I had one to truly support. Maybe I’ll support reading just for you you’ve been such a nice guy.

@Europoorupset Definitely get to what we call a “proper team”. One where 90% of the crowd live in the town and half of them walk to the stadium. Portsmouth, Aston Villa, qpr. The whole atmosphere around the stadium is so different. Full pubs and just a buzz you don’t get at the big clubs

@Europoorupset The modern stadiums have good drainage systems but lots of the older ones don't, but even then it's okay. In the top 2 divisions it's rare these days for a game to be called off because of pitch conditions

FIFA has dumb rules about what stadiums are acceptable unfortunately. When we were awarded the tournamanet there was much talk about what stadiums should be chosen. Many Americans were dissapointed with the selections. Met life is unanimously known as the biggest dump in the NFL (for NFL games) and fifa chose it for the final. Our college stadiums would have been awesome many of them lack a near by international airport however and I belive that’s why they weren’t considered.

@Europoorupset I’m a Brit but my main thing has been the ticket prices and obviously a lot of the stadiums used are NFL stadiums the only one i think that has football and American football on regularly is Seattle stadium lumen field since it’s used for MLS and NFL

@Europoorupset We had the worst owners ever and were very close to going extinct. We’re the 5th oldest club in the country and we were nearly gone. The new owners are not big spenders but they’ve provided a lot of stability….

@Europoorupset @FuManChuCaChu It was actually great when I went to the Orlando city stadium in April. It felt like a proper (modern) European football stadium. Just sucked the lack of bars and food outlets outside and around the ground
