Marc is correct that humans 'need' work insofar as we need stuff to do. We need challenge. We need a way to earn self esteem and status. Where he's wrong is that wage slavery is the best way to achieve this. That's like saying "prisons are good because they give you structure." Keep in mind that Marc is in favor of technological automation, free market capitalism, and believes that automation is capital's highest leverage. When you take that to its conclusion, it means that we're facing near-total automation. But, Marc also foregrounds moral and ontological assertions about the virtue of work. But I think it's important to separate work (meaningful striving) from labor (wage slavery and structural precarity).
