also wanted to add that the second picture is a sculpture of a woman who, during the 1929 woman’s riots, seized a gun from a colonial policeman and broke it in 2! when i think about nigerian feminist history, i always return to this

i went to the ibibio museum in uyo and i marvelled at some of the paintings and sculptures of women back then. our idea of modesty is a colonial import and we need to do away with it
