#FamilyMediationWeek At Fair Hearing, we are training 1,000 mediators with a trauma-informed approach to domestic abuse, equipping them to recognise DA, apply appropriate mediation approaches, and link victims to the right support services and processes. #DomesticAbuseAwareness

Only 20% of domestic abuse victims report to the police. At #FairHearing, we’re training police officers to respond with empathy and understanding - so victims can trust the system built to protect them. 300+ sergeants trained so far. More to come. #domesticabuse

New DA specialists in 999 control rooms and new Protection Orders are promising. But victims will still fall through gaps unless frontline professionals feel confident identifying and responding to abuse. We’re training them to make that happen. #DomesticAbuse

60% of the 4,000 women in UK prisons have experienced domestic abuse. Many were coerced into offending. An estimated 17,240 children are now separated from their mothers. This isn’t inevitable - it’s a system failure. We need justice reform. #JusticeReform

Over the festive period, rates of domestic abuse rise by over 15%. Yet during this period, access to courts, public services and some frontline support is reduced. The result is a heightened risk gap. Anticipated increases in harm require pro-active frameworks. @soniasodha

Even if the courts pause over Christmas, domestic abuse continues behind closed doors. Christmas shouldn't mean silence. Awareness can save lives. #domesticabuse

On #InternationalHumanRightsDay, we are reminded that safety, dignity, and freedom from violence are not privileges - they are fundamental human rights.

As we near the end of #16DaysOfActivism, we're coming back to the root of why we do what we do. Fair Hearing was created after our co-founder Julia was dragged through the family courts 37 times by her abusive ex-partner. 37 times. No one should have to face this ordeal.

Clare's Law (Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme) Under Clare’s Law, you have the right to ask the police whether a current or former partner has a known history of violent or abusive behaviour. Safety starts with knowledge. Find out more from @metpoliceuk

Children Heard and Seen
Children Heard and Seen@ChildrenHandS·
Every year, between 50-200 children are affected by domestic homicide. Shockingly, we do not know the exact number. 'The Children Behind the Headlines' is a 12-minute film raising awareness of the impact on children when one parent is serving a custodial sentence for killing the other parent, and demonstrating the need for trauma-informed support. We will be hosting a free lunchtime screening of this film at 12.30pm on Tuesday the 9th December. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with our Founder/CEO @SarahBurrows100, and domestic homicide survivors (featured in the film) Jordan and Harry Bradbury. In the criminal justice process, giving evidence can be one of the most challenging steps for victims/witnesses in domestic abuse cases. To support them, the @CPSUK and police jointly operate Witness Care Units across England and Wales.

Victims of DA are twice as likely to experience depression. Domestic abuse does not end when the incident stops. Its impact can be long-lasting, especially on mental health. Prolonged struggles in court can compound trauma, worsen depression, and leave victims feeling unheard.

In March 2025, @IDASfor100 found that 70% of victims feel that trauma and coercive control are not well understood within the court system. We’re working to strengthen judicial understanding of abuse and have trained over 300 judges so far. #16DaysOfActivism
