The amount of runners who don’t track the mileage on their shoes is wild to me. A runner will ice their knees, foam roll for 30 minutes, buy a massage gun, book a PT appointment, change their stride, and adjust their entire training plan before ever once checking how many miles are on their shoes. Strava tracks it for you. Add the shoe, assign it to your runs, done. Takes 10 seconds. Track your shoes. Rotate them. Replace them before they fail you.

Every coach loves to say, “Time to start planning for next year.” Slow down, Coach. First, finish this one. Do a debrief. Not a highlight reel. Not a pity party. Just an honest look back. Ask yourself: – What actually worked? – What would I change if I could? – What would I do again if I could? – What surprised me about this group? Don’t call them mistakes. Call them experiments that taught you something. The debrief isn’t about beating yourself up. It’s about collecting wisdom before it fades. Because if you don’t stop to see what this season taught you, next season will teach you the same lesson again.
