@alex_westry 1/3rd of Duran's passes were long balls. Our possession style saves goals too, but doesn't show in the stats. It can also lead to goals given up, but rarely. The statistics show time and time again possession is key to winning. 50/50 long balls rarely lead to possession.

The criticism I have with San Diego FC is they play too cute at the back. Sometimes the best thing to do is to clear it. SDFC gifted Toluca that goal. 0-1 and 3-3 aggregate score. SDFC needs a goal to advance. Lots of game left but SDFC needs to be smarter at the back.

@alex_westry I know he made an error vs Dallas, but Søe looks better on the ball than Pilcher. With Sargeant injured, they might be better off with Pilcher on the bench as he can cover both FB positions and CB

Since Manu Duah is suspended for tomorrow’s 2nd leg against Toluca who starts next to Chris McVey? I think it’s either Ian Pilcher whose natural position is CB however he’s been mostly played as a fullback or Osvald Søe who is a natural CB but hasn’t played much for San Diego FC

Tverskov is the heartbeat of this San Diego team, key to their possession-heavy system. His range is elite; whether dropping deep in build-up to break lines or pushing forward to provide the final ball, he’s the primary connector. That he’s not a DP is crazy value for SDFC.

@dencenugz @joeclowery I don’t disagree with you that it wasn’t a great ratio, but it shows they were creating chances. We just need to convert those chances. I do disagree that there was no creativity based on the number 1st half chances. All good though. First game isn’t going to be perfect.

@Ferree @joeclowery 6 shots from in the box and 1 shot on goal is not a great ratio, especially dominating in possession. It was a poor first half and Varas made adjustments, but that first half showed ZERO creativity when we had the ball the whole time. We play with out back to the goal…

@dencenugz @joeclowery We had 8 shots, 6 from in the box, and 1 on goal. That is the whole picture, not just looking at on goal. Balls were being delivered but we just couldn't convert. I wouldn't call that "insane".

@joeclowery This doesn’t tell the whole story, first 60 minutes we had 1 shot on goal with 72% possession. That’s insane. There was no creativity until the second half when we finally started getting the ball in the box and actually took a shot. We are still severely missing a playmaker.
