Den Anhängern von "New Trek" fehlt genau diese Aufklärung, die Star Trek in den Menschen wecken wollte: das tiefergehende Verständnis für die Dinge. Man präsentiert mir hier eine Episode und meint, hier sei Star Trek politisch gewesen. Dabei prangert der Protagonist lediglich an, dass die Menschen vergessen haben sich um einander zu kümmern und dass es deshalb diese sozialen Probleme gibt. Der Autor des Kommentars denkt wohl: Die Aussage meint den Sozialstaat und politische Parteien, die sich für diesen einsetzen, daher sei die Episode politisch und ein Gegenbeweis. Aber ein Trekkie wie ich weiß, dass in Star Trek nie institutionelle oder kollektivistische Argumente gebraucht wurden, sondern immer das Individuum angesprochen wurde. Star Trek hätte im Geiste Gene Roddenberrys niemals eine Botschaft vertreten, die zur Abgabe von Verantwortung führt. Der Protagonist in der Episode appelliert also nicht an die Menschen eine staatliche Institution zu schaffen, sondern einander eigenverantwortlich zu helfen. Das ist keine politische, sondern eine humanistische Botschaft, also genau das, wofür Star Trek steht, New Trek aber nicht.
