📚 Last Gyne Academic Session
Antenatal & Postnatal Care and Early/Late Pregnancy Complications
An interactive session based on real-life clinical scenarios commonly seen in Family Medicine, encouraging active participation and clinical thinking.
Presented by: Dr. Omar Aldamigh (R2) & Razan Albadran (R1)
Supervised by: Dr. Sarah Alqahtani
Clinical Pearls:
➤ Confirm gestational age accurately using LMP and early ultrasound when available.
➤ The first antenatal visit is essential: take a full history, assess risks, order baseline labs, and provide proper counseling.
➤ Be alert to warning signs in early pregnancy such as vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, and severe vomiting with dehydration.
➤ In late pregnancy, monitor fetal movements and screen for hypertensive disorders.
➤ Postnatal care is equally important—screen for postpartum depression and discuss contraception.
➤ Iron deficiency anemia is common; screen early and manage appropriately.
➤ Educating patients about warning signs, medication safety, and when to seek care is crucial.
A valuable reminder that proper antenatal and postnatal follow-up greatly improves maternal and fetal outcomes.

📚 Gyne Academic Session: Contraception & Family Planning
An interactive session focusing on safe, individualized contraceptive counseling across different clinical scenarios commonly encountered in Family Medicine.
Presented by: Shareefa Alhemaid (R2) and Raghad Alenazi (R1).
Supervised by: Dr. Enas Alsafa.
Clinical pearls:
➤ Adjusting estrogen dose or progestogen type can manage pill side effects effectively
➤ A positive family history of VTE may contraindicate combined hormonal contraception even with normal screening
➤ Obesity affects emergency contraception efficacy, copper IUD remains the most effective option
➤ After bariatric surgery, non-oral methods are preferred

📚 Today’s Academic Activity
Our session focused on the approach of common gynecological conditions, emphasizing evidence-based care in Family Medicine.
As we kick off January as Women’s Health Month, we look forward to a series of gyne focused academic activities aimed at strengthening preventive and clinical care.
