The monthly delivery from @FoodbankNT has arrived at the Katherine Food Ladder. We are thrilled to see so many boxes of food, in a time when so many people are under financial strain. It is a pleasure to work with the team at Foodbank NT as they expand into the Katherine region.

“This initiative keeps the focus on healthy eating, but most importantly gives the ladies the sense of being empowered to grow their own food, have something positive to do at home & reminds us of our connection to community." - Pip Gordon, Banatjarl Strongbala Wimun Grup. (3/3)

With the current lockdown of remote communities, and the high cost and limited availability of fresh produce, being able to grow your own food has never been more important. (1/3)

Native basil is one of our most important crops at the Katherine Food Ladder and is pivotal in making the project a profitable social enterprise. The native basil is harvested and dried on site, and then sold to restaurants and food businesses around the country.

As well as adding some nice colour to your garden, flowers also act as a deterrent for insect pests. We recommend geraniums, marigolds and nasturtiums. Herbs are also a great alternative, and you can eat them too! #TipTuesday

Using recycled materials, like old tyres, paint tins and jam jars, is not only good for the planet, it also helps you save money! When it comes to gardening, your imagination is your only limitation. #TipTuesday

.@eonfoundation delivered trays of sown seeds to Katherine Food Ladder to get them growing in our seedling greenhouse. Due to the current lockdown, EON can't visit their projects. Instead they are growing seedlings which will be transported to communities to help them grow food.

We were thrilled to host @savechildrenaus who visited Katherine Food Ladder to collect tomato seedlings. Excitingly we will be partnering with the team to establish our first community garden plot, a safe place for support workers & families to interact & learn how to grow food.

Did you know, even if you have 🐝 in your garden, it's a good idea to pollinate flowers by hand? Watch Horticulture & Training Manager Scott McDonald explain how to do it. Scott pollinated pumpkin flowers but the same trick applies to melons, cucumbers, zucchinis etc. #TipTuesday

We need your help! Create a video explaining how to grow your favourite veggie at home. Not only is it a fun and creative exercise (great for the kids!), it will also provide valuable knowledge to those who are unable to access fresh produce. Upload here: facebook.com/groups/5063531…

Today we’re learning how to grow carrots! Food Ladder's Project Coordinator Nigel McLean put together this how-to video, which will have you planting in no time. Nigel filmed it at home and then edited it on his phone, proving everyone can be a gardener and a movie maker! (2/2)
