The results are in! 38% of you said that inflation is the number one thing stopping you from eating a healthy diet right now, followed by junk cravings. Here are some tips to help you save money and protect your health: 1. Some of our local Nigerian foods are packed with nutrients. These include soybeans (soybean flour/tofu), beans, groundnuts (peanuts), Ofada rice, moringa leaves (zogale), mackerel fish, sweet potatoes, and lots more. You can hit your nutrition targets on a low budget. Cheap isn’t always bad😊 2. Always consider seasonal foods (like fresh corn during the rainy season, fresh vegetables/fruits, etc.). This way, you eat to keep your body healthy and save costs. 3. If you enjoy shopping in malls, try “smart shopping.” Wait for sales and stock up on your favorite food items.

As for the 29% (cravings), You are not weak. Cravings are likely linked to nutrient deficiencies or too many carbohydrates. When you skip protein in your breakfast and consume too much sugar, your blood sugar may crash, causing your brain to panic and demand fast energy (junk food comes in). Fix your breakfast and your cravings will be fixed! Please don’t let your health suffer due inflation or junks deny your body the perfect diet.

If your vegetable soup turns dark brown when cooking, you’ve boiled away all the vitamin C and B vitamins from those leaves. Stop leaving your vegetables on the fire for twenty minutes. To lock in 100% of the iron and vitamins, steam your leaves for a maximum of 3 minutes. Better yet, blanch them in hot water for a minute, shock them in cold water, and add them to your stew at the very last minute. Save your nutrients, save your blood count!
