Excited to unveil our playground supporters’ plaque Saturday 4th May 11am, Victoria Playing Field. Delighted that Mayor, councillors & donors will be joining us. They will also get to see VPFC in training: 2019 winners of Mayor’s Pride Inclusive Conmunities Award. All welcome

Work commencing this week to improve access to VPF will extend path from the playground to the 2 pedestrian entrances at lower end of Folly Lane & Verulam Road (near garage). On Verulam Road side the steps will be removed & replaced with surfaced slope. Time estimate 2 weeks.

@stalbansgreens @SustainableStA what can we do about contractors sitting for long periods in stationary vans on hot days with engines running? Every time we approach them they tell us they need air con to keep cool but they are destroying air quality for everyone else!

Please no barbecues and no fires in the playing field in this heatwave. Everything is so dry. We love our trees and our new wooden playground. Please don’t put yourselves or others in danger. We have no water supply down there and things can go wrong very quickly!

@plasticfreesta Delighted that you’ll be there. Recent litter pick revealed shocking no of plastic bags & bottles thrown into hedge borders. Anything you can do to help educate really welcome. We keep lobbying Council for recycling bins for those who insist on using plastic but no success yet!

Had a good tidy up of the playing field this morning. Thanks to all those who helped out. Found lots of plastic, glass and 8 unopened cans of lager bizarrely. Picking up the rubbish helped us notice the signs of spring approaching. A morning well spent #GBSpringClean

For obvious reasons our planned spring clean of Victoria Playing Field will be postponed until Saturday 24 March. Stay safe and warm everyone! #GBSpringClean #LitterHeroes

The laurel next to the climbing frame had a brutal haircut today. This was much more severe than planned & was the result of a breakdown of communication within the Council. Apologies to all intrepid climbers. It will grow back! Playground fixed now though so not all bad news!

Happily we’ve reached agreement with SADC to share costs of repairing damaged playground equipment. Work should be complete early 2018. Please continue to report suspicious/anti-social behaviour to police on 101. Thanks for the support and thank the kids for for their patience!

@FightingCocksSA Wow that’s so generous. We’re waiting to hear whether the Council can fund repairs so we might not yet have to fund it ourselves. We had set aside money in case of vandalism as it’s not covered by insurance. Will see if it’s enough! Thank you so much & we will keep you posted

Thanks for all the positive messages. We haven’t come this far to be beaten by vandals! We’ll repair as soon as possible but the rest of playground remains open in the meantime. Great to have such a supportive local community. Onwards and upwards!
