When considering spinal cord atrophy as a measure of pathology, it is important to also account for natural variability. See this excellent publication by Daan de Jong bit.ly/4tKJpCv

Cognitive decline can worsen independent of relapse in multiple sclerosis and is best predicted by early neurodegeneration. An important new article by Stefano Ziccardi & Massimiliano Calabrese bit.ly/4c4YrMY

I had an excellent discussion with Victoria Leavitt and Brett Drummond during this session at @ECTRIMS conference! Looking forward to future advancements worth debating : )

🎙️ “Cognition is a window into otherwise uncaptured disease progression, and that is a reason to measure it. That then allows us to then decide if what we are doing for our patients is right.” Tom Fuchs from @AmsNeuroscience in the latest ECTRIMS Podcast on cognition 🎧 Listen now: bit.ly/48vMjm7 #ECTRIMSPodcast #MultipleSclerosis #Cognition #MSResearch #Neurology #MSCommunity @MStranslate

Cognitive symptoms in MS are common—but not always captured well by current tools. In our latest podcast, Vicky Leavitt from @Columbia and Tom Fuchs from @AmsNeuroscience talk about the state of cognition research, if measurement still lags behind clinical need, and how new tools may change the field forever. 🎧 Listen now: Apple: apple.co/4oMh8HY #ECTRIMSPodcast #MultipleSclerosis #Cognition #MSResearch #Neurology #MSCommunity @MStranslate

Thank you @ECTRIMS for supporting this work, to the committee for honoring us with this award, and to my incredible mentors and collaborators! I am proud of this research, unraveling the functional brain underpinnings of disease progression in people with multiple sclerosis.

By testing the SDMT monthly across 3 years, the plateau of practice effects was reached after 18 repetitions, suggesting that alternate versions and reliable-change methodologies should be considered. Study from @goteborgsuni @sahlgrenska ▶️ journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

Hi @lauramann212. I don't think there is one correct answer to your question. I recommend you ask your neurologist how they tend to practice. Different neurologists practice in different ways. Some will not obtain an EDSS ever, in fact. Other will start measuring this later on, years after diagnosis.

My interview with @byMattHoffman @neurology_live in Copenhagen #ECTRIMS2024 is now available! We discussed personalized medicine for patients with multiple sclerosis and the DAAE Score 2.0, our improved clinical tool for estimating risk of transition to secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. The interview: bit.ly/4ek9sbm The tool: bit.ly/466yozW The original publication: bit.ly/4f4fM7K Thank you to @ECTRIMS and @MSBase_Registry for supporting this research and to all my colleagues that made this work possible. @Mennoke @AnatNeu_Ams @MScentrum020 @AmsterdamUMC

1/Have MULTIPLE questions about the new criteria for MULTIPLE sclerosis? ECTRIMS 2024 just came out w/proposed new changes to the McDonald criteria for multiple sclerosis. The changes are complex, but here is a thread w/the basics that you NEED to know!
