However, the Labour vote in Barrow and Furness was still strong and Chris had overwhelming support. We agreed that Erica Lewis would be our second preference. Erica has a brilliant campaigning record and has been a long-standing supporter of our branch.

We are particularly grateful to Chris for his support in establishing the branch and for campaigning alongside us on various youth issues. Chris was our candidate in 2019. He fought a difficult campaign which was ultimately decided by national issues.

At a recent meeting, Furness Young Labour members met to discuss the prospective parliamentary candidates for our constituency. It was unanimously agreed that Chris Altree for Barrow and Furness is the most suitable candidate to stand for election in Barrow and Furness.

2023 marks 20 years since the repeal of Section 28, the law that banned the promotion of homosexuality in the UK. A law that was an attack on the very idea of LGBTQ+ visibility. There are sections of the community that continues to be attacked. (4/5)
