Gisteren had een geweldige dag moeten worden. Mijn vrouw (vanuit Indonesië) ophalen op Schiphol. Echter zit ze dus gisteren vast in Doha, Qatar en lijken er nog geen vluchten te vertrekken.. Voel me in deze gewoon machteloos/onzeker. Enige wat ik kan doen is wachten en hopen. 😟

So here is why this is happening Japan is shifting to a fall-to-spring calendar (like Europe). As a result, there's a transitional gap from February to June 2026. The J.League launched the special Meiji Yasuda J1 100 Year Vision League, a one-off tournament for all J1 teams, to mark the league's "100-year vision" milestone. And there are no draws in the regional/group stage. If a match is tied after 90 minutes, it goes straight to a penalty shootout. No extra time. Just penalties. The points system works like this: Win in 90 minutes: 3 points Win on penalties: 2 points Lose on penalties: 1 point Lose in 90 minutes: 0 points So a "draw" scenario still totals 3 shared points (like normal), but it guarantees a winner for extra drama and stakes. No relegation applies. The winner earns an AFC Champions League spot. The tournament started in early this month, and penalties have already decided games. For example, Cerezo Osaka 0-0 Gamba Osaka was decided on penalties. Here's What I Think I like it as a fun, limited experiment. It boosts excitement, tension, and gives teams extra penalty practice. Let's be honest, penalties can feel lottery-like. But for a short transitional season? It's engaging and fresh. That's why I say this works for what it is: a stopgap tournament during a calendar transition. It's not meant to replace the regular league format. It's meant to keep fans entertained, give teams competitive matches, and experiment with something bold. Would I want this in a full league season? Probably not. Draws are part of football. Sometimes a 0-0 grind is the right result-especially for teams that could get crushed if they try to play for a win- like West Ham against United yesterday. But for a four-month transitional tournament with no relegation and a Champions League spot on the line? Yeah, I'm here for it. The J.League took a risk. And honestly? I respect that. Football needs more experimentation, not less. Let's see how it plays out.

@VI_nl Paar feiten: De J.League bestaat niet 100 jaar. De naam is een homage op de visie van de Japanse voetbalbond gericht tot 2092, wanneer de J.League daadwerkelijk 100 jaar zal bestaan... De 'no draw' + puntentelling is ook tijdelijk tot het nieuwe seizoen begint in Japan (26/27).

De Japanse voetbalbond (JFA) heeft een aantal opmerkelijke spelregelwijzigingen doorgevoerd. Zo is er op het hoogste niveau tijdelijk geen gelijkspel meer mogelijk en heeft ook de puntentelling een flinke ommezwaai gekregen. vi.nl/nieuws/histori…
