@TemporarioZol Yeah I'm hoping we get some more interesting villains. Deltarune has lots of interesting characters to analyze cool villains is really the only thing missing from the cast of the game.

@GGloobhead I understand the sentiment, but the best I can say is that perhaps this type of character exists with Friend and especially ERAM (given that they strongly encourage the weird route and Kris violent side)

Criticizing aspects about Deltarune is a herculean task because dozens of people come out of the woodworks to defend poor decisions with their life.

toby fox retconning King from chapter 1 into just another Silly Little Guy In His Silly Little World of Silly Little Creatures was genuinely an awful move and it kinda tells me that we'll never see fangs like those ever again

@TemporarioZol I wouldn't mind him being a one and done if atleast the other characters had some BITE atleast

@TemporarioZol I think it'd be more interesting if King stood out by not really being a joke of a character. It's all up to opinion and interpretation but I think it'd be cooler if King stood out more from the villains. HE DOES stand out but there really hasn't been done much with him.

@TemporarioZol King is having some form of consequence, he IS in jail. He's kinda just secluded from everyone else in the castle town.

@GGloobhead But he's essentially redeemed, at least in terms of his ideals; he's changed his mind, and even though Flowey is still rude, he doesn't do any harm anymore.
I understand that he suffers the consequences of his actions, but I would argue that King isn't that kind of character+

@TemporarioZol I'm expecting him to at least have a redeeming moment in the future chapters, fighting back against the knight for the sake of the lightners, but at this point we can only speculate while the chapters are being made.

@TemporarioZol Deltarune really isn't a complete game, so it's really hard to have these conversations because no one has a clear idea of what he wants to do with the Knight, Gaster, Friend, etc. I liked King as a villain and wish he was just a bit more intimidating

@TemporarioZol To me that's kinda a criticism for Deltarune though it probably just means it's not for me. I just wish the characters had more BITE, were a tad more evil. If everyone is goofy and redeemable again it's hard to make the characters stick out

@GGloobhead I can understand that, I just don't feel it's a big deal when the rest of his morally gray characters are goofy: Spamton (honestly leans more towards evil) and Queen are examples that come to mind.

@TemporarioZol The problem is that part of his redemption is treated a lil as a joke. Having a comically large hampster bottle and wheel just serve as levity that only really detract from his arc.

@GGloobhead Yes, it does, but I don't see how that's relevant. One is a joke about that character, the other is about a slow redemption, where King is slowly willing to talk.

@TemporarioZol I like the idea of building up king as morally gray, I just think Toby fumbled it a little by making him a little too goofy in Chap 2 onwards.

@TemporarioZol There's a difference between redeeming an evil character and then just sticking them in a hamster cage for the next few chapters.

@TemporarioZol I'm the Bad Guy works more as a line since the legend outlines the lighters as the good guys, it's a bit of a clunky line but it shows his opposition to the lightners at least. Not to sound rude but you guys really think Toby calculates every line he writes

@TemporarioZol I'd argue at least a little that his characterization from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2 was changed a little bit. I get trying harder to make him more morally gray, but it was pushed too hard in the other direction. Plus having no outwardly evil character yet makes it stick out harder.

@GGloobhead But here's the thing, the initial criticism was "Toby retconned King's personality and made him silly for no reason." Besides the misuse of the word retcon (as always), it's fair to dislike how a character is developed, but people can disagree+

@_jokerleo What I've noticed is just a lot of people believe they are factual when it comes to criticism when it's really opinionated. Deltarune is a flawed game and I wish both sides actually discussed the flaws instead of just ripping into eachother.

@_jokerleo If I could throw my dice I do think King was ATLEAST a little intimidating in chapter 1 atleast, Toby was already planning on making him a but funnier for chapter 2 but it's in my opinion I do like Chap 1 king more

@_jokerleo Too be honest yeah I could have worded this tweet better. I do enjoy deltarune too but its hard not to get caught up in certain aspects that could be better written.

@GGloobhead Because they were flat out wrong bere. It's one thing not to enjoy a story decision but another to claim that the thing you don't like was a retcon and misled people. They just didn't pay attention to the game.
