📢 TAKE ACTION: Tell Governor Kemp to veto HB 295! Despite powerful testimony from impacted community, the Georgia legislature pushed HB 295 on 4/02/26 in the final hours of session. It now heads to Georgia Governor Kemp’s desk where it has 40 days to be signed into law or vetoed. HB 295 will let property owners and businesses sue cities and towns if they think anti-homeless laws are not being enforced aggressively enough. That means more pressure on local governments to criminalize homelessness, waste public money on lawsuits, and double down on arrests and jail instead of real solutions. Advocates fought until the very end and were able to lessen some of the bill’s harm to immigrant communities. But this bill still continues to prioritize targeting sanctuary cities, instead of helping everyday Georgians. Contact your Georgia Legislators to stand with immigrant communities and VOTE NO on SB 116! SB 116 will REQUIRE DNA samples be collected from anyone who has an immigration detainer notice and has been charged with a misdemeanor or felony. Under SB 116, someone charged with a misdemeanor traffic violation could face an immigration detainer request and have their DNA collected.
