Covering baseball for @USATODAYSports. Unbearably staid. "You don't get to hate it unless you love it."

@KReevesCarverHS Hey coach, did you think it would work when Salami untied his shoes and told him if he didn't play a second for Oak Ridge he could go back to Carver? What a relief.

@kendallbaker Similarly, some columnists lost a bit off their fastball when they went the Around the Horn route, etc. It's inevitable such commitments cut into reporting/"ideation" time, though at least pods are a little more time-neutral.

Hot take: Most sports journalists get worse at analysis when they stop writing and go full podcast/video mode. And it makes sense why. Writing forces you to slow down and organize your thoughts. Writing is where you pressure-test your ideas. Podcasts let you just… say stuff.

@BernieFratto @robmiech @FoxSportsRadio Miller had an eight-pitch AB…He couldn’t get two prime fastballs past Perdomo so he tried to land the slider, which troubled him all inning, missing three times in walking Julio Rodriguez. He had his chances. #factz?!??

I just learned of Marcia Herold passing away. She was a breath of fresh air on Yankees Twitter with her humor, wit, and passion. We lost a great one. My condolences to her family and friends. Rest well, Marcia.

@DavidLaurilaQA I appreciate that you can x out of it and it snaps back to normal. But I don’t think I’ll be a convert.

If making things clumsy and unnecessarily complicated was the objective, B-Ref very much succeeded.

Anytime I hear "señores y señoras" or any variation like we just heard from the Italian announcer in that arena, I can't help but think of Jane's Addiction "Stop" Just me or anybody else raised on good alternative music?

For people upset about the signing, I guess they were really big Cesar Prieto fans? Because that’s probably the opening day roster spot he’ll snag. It’s fine. I can’t imagine having a bigger opinion on the signing than that lol
Kyle Reis, 58% Neanderthal@kyler416

I think the thing about social media and the overly connected nature of our current existence is that sometimes we feel like we have to have an opinion when we really don’t. I have no opinion about the Cardinals signing Ramon Urias other than the once and future legend of it all

@pamsson market forces are always interesting. You wonder what Tucker might have received in a year with deeper talent available.

@GabeLacques Career slash including Miami isn’t holding much weight. He has MVP level production as a Yankee. If he keeps that up, he’ll be evaluated on that and will deserve at least more than Cody. He may end up being the best bat in a weak FA class as well. Definitely not out of the realm.

I’m curious about this. If his name wasn’t Jazz Chisholm Jr., what are you paying a top 3 second baseman in his prime coming off potentially back to back 30/30 seasons (you’re more than welcome to go with one)?

Former #Angels GM Bill Bavasi joined me in the way-back machine for a ride through the wacky replacement-player spring of 1995, a fantasy camp for participants, an embarrassment to coaches and executives and a gold mine of material for ball writers. youtube.com/watch?v=fUsKNn…

@markasaxon Santa Cruz High had a running back in the mid-80s who was unstoppable. His name was Glen Hill. He also played baseball and eventually answered to Glenallen.
