Supporters of Rape-Accused Godman Ashok Kharat Stage Protest in Nashik A group of people came out on the streets in Nashik, waving saffron flags and holding big banners. They are demanding the immediate release of self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, also known as “Captain Baba”. Ashok Kharat was arrested by Nashik police in March 2026 on serious charges of rape, sexual exploitation, drugging women during fake spiritual rituals, secret recording, and blackmail. Police say they have recovered dozens of objectionable videos. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is now looking into more than 100 complaints, including at least 8 rape-related cases. His supporters claim he is innocent and say there are “atrocities on Hindus”. They are shouting slogans like “Release Maharaj Ashok Baba” and warning that “otherwise Hindus will rise in anger”. This is not the first time. These same groups have come out on the streets many times before in support of rapists and sexual offenders when the accused belonged to their own community. Rape is rape — it has no religion. Justice must come before blind faith or community feelings. Victims deserve support and fast justice, not protests that try to protect the accused.
