You keep bringing up probability. I just told you that there are four different outcomes and what each of those outcomes means. The only positive outcome for picking red is if I'm in the minority. And in that case there's no point in me picking red since I'd accomplished the exact same thing by picking blue. Therefore, this is not a question of probability. There is literally no benefit to picking red over blue. If you disagree, then please tell me what the positive red button outcome is. Is it the outcome where I'm in the majority and I watch my nephews and nieces die? That's the one I said I would rather die than witness. I'm fine checking out for that one. Or is it the outcome where I'm in the minority and I would have gotten the exact same result if I had picked blue?

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil Got it. So you aren't even considering the probabilities involved in your decision making. If this is how you make decisions, how are you even able to step outside? What if you opening your door has a 1:8.000.000.000 probability of causing a hurricane via the butterfly effect?

If this was how the buttons looked, what portion of humanity would press blue? It'd probably be a large enough number due to mistakes, the young, altruists, etc., such that it remains wise to press blue.

If I chose red, It's basically guaranteed that I would witness blue people die off unless 51% or more chose blue. And it's highly likely that the blue button people would include children I care about greatly. Half of them, in fact. Here: Choose red: Either I'm in the minority and no one dies or I'm in the majority and I watch half of my nephews and nieces die. Choose blue: Either way I don't witness little children I care about die since they either won't die, or I'll be dead at the same time. Incidentally, I don't contribute to their deaths either. Probability doesn't really enter into it when these are the options. The only favorable red option is if I'm in the minority, and in that case I might as well have just picked blue.

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil Okay so the probabilities just don't matter to you, is that your stance? No matter how small the likelihood is, apparently the mere possibility of witnessing the blue people die off is so horrible to you, that you don't want to take *any* risk. Not even a 1 in 8 billion risk.

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil But it's not in your fucking hands whether you have to witness that or not. That's been my whole point. You keep pretending it is in your hands, it isn't. In 7.999.999.999 cases out of 8.000.000.000, it is not in your hands. So stop comparing the consequences directly.

@Skolander2 @cremieuxrecueil I don't have to be able to predict the results. If fewer than 51% pick blue, then I don't have to witness my nephews and nieces dying. And if 51% do pick blue, I also don't have to witness my nephews and nieces dying.

@Skolander2 @cremieuxrecueil Assisting grieving families kind of sucks. I know some people find meaning in that, but I'd rather just check out in the situation where 50% of my nephews and nieces die and I contributed.

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil So the question really isn't really whether you think being the tipping point for illiterate infants dying is worse than suicide, obviously it is. The question is, is it millions of times worse? What of all those millions of times you survive and get to assist grieving families?

Don't get me wrong. If all the participants have the same level of agency as me, I'd pick red. However, knowingly making the choice to give some countless number of infants the death sentence due to no fault of their own would weigh on me. Let's assume that all children below a certain age pick randomly and so it's 50% of the world's children dying. Are you really cool with living to see that?

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil Okay, but I would argue this is just a perfect example of negativity bias. You are emotionally hung up on that negative outcome, without balancing its weight with its probability, which is 1:8 billion. Billion with a B! Your probability of suicide by blue button is at least 1:10.

@Skolander2 @cremieuxrecueil Because, a small child doesn't understand the choice, some will pick blue. I'd rather die in that case, rather than be the tipping point for a bunch of illiterate infants dying because they like the color blue.

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil how does the inclusion of children change things? For me, I'm always going red. Why? Because I'm not in control of what other people pick. Your choice doesn't actually matter swing the final outcome. So all that matters is ensuring your own survival, you can't save everyone else

@ByronYork @joelpollak Most would-be assassins would see actual assassination as the victory. As for his grievance is being aired, they are constantly being aired. Everything he believes in is mass produced and mass distributed.

Gunman's manifesto is anti-Trump social media come to life. By seeking to murder Trump, Cole Allen managed to have his grievances presented, in his own words, straight to the President of the U.S. on a widely-watched network news program. How could any would-be assassin not see that as a victory? washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/column…

I like how you omitted "the young" from his plain English. If it's people like me participating, I'm picking red. If there are a bunch of 1-year-old children who can't understand the choice, then I'm picking blue. Since the choice applies to "everyone" that includes every infant as well.

@GeneKnights @cremieuxrecueil It would not at all. His express argument that you can see written in english is that there are so many dumb/altruistic people that you need to risk your life to contribute 1:8,000,000,000 weight towards keeping them alive. This is "wise"

Today, an Israeli quadcopter drone fell in the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza. When residents tried to approach it, they found it carrying large quantities of drugs, which indicates that it may have been deliberately dropped among civilians. Israel has tried by all means and methods to destroy the lives of Palestinians, killing them, displacing them from their homes, and starving them. Now it is using another malicious method: dropping drugs among them, in an attempt to undermine Gaza society from within.

@antonioguterres It's a lesson to not build the reactors from the 60s. If someone argued against flying in planes due to the safety record of planes built in the 60s, you'd consider them to be an idiot.

Fox News reporter: The shooters manifesto said he wanted to target administration officials. Investigators also found extensive anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric across his social media accounts. According to reports, Allen’s brother alerted New London Police Department after receiving the alleged manifesto before the incident. U.S. Secret Service and Montgomery County Police Department later interviewed Allen’s sister, Avriana Allen, at the family home in Rockville. Key points from the interview: • She said her brother often made radical statements and spoke about doing “something” to fix today’s world. • She confirmed he bought 2 handguns and a shotgun from Cap Tactical Firearms and stored them at their parents’ home without their knowledge. • He regularly trained with those firearms at shooting ranges. • He was reportedly linked to a group called “The Wide Awakes.” • He also attended a “No Kings” protest in California.
