A thread about using color as a design tool in science presentations. Color is a great tool to separate different categories of information, to highlight information, or to establish an emotional tone. 🧵1/20

@mattloose @nanopore May I make a suggestion for the software/gui/viz team? It would be really cool to have a real time tracker for Gb >50kb, Gb >100kb. Seems like an easy add on

Right - time for the other extreme... @nanopore kit14 and long reads... This run is about 3 hours in - so far looking pretty good for an ultra long run.

Kit 14 will allow users to tune their accuracy & output needs by modifying run conditions in the software. Early work has shown 99.6% raw read accuracy can be achieved at 28 degrees. At 34 degrees, 99.3% is possible whilst generating a high yield. Watch: bit.ly/3k2AR7n

Now the real fun begins, as we seek to understand precisely which aspects of ageing might be impacted by somatic mutation. To what extent do these trends exist beyond mammals? Can we learn more about genome maintenance from studying long-lived species? Stay tuned… [23/24]

Accuracy often gets a lot of attention when talking about the most recent release of @nanopore chemistry. However, I think it is a game changer that now only 5 fmol of DNA is loaded onto the flowcell. For 10 kb DNA fragments that is down to 31 ng!!!
