Emergency aid for heart children in Eritrea Since the end of the 1990s, paediatric heart surgeon Dr. Andreas Urban, founder of "Kinderherzen e.V.", has been flying with a team of ca. 30 specialists to Asmara. Until now they have operated and saved the lives of nearly 2000 children. Dr. Urban is fascinating by the masterpiece of collaboration with the International Operation Centre for Children in Asmara ( IOCCA).

Today, #Eritrea co-hosted a side event with the Governments of #Italy, #BurkinaFaso , #Canada, and #Sweden, together with the @UNFPA and @UNICEF Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and The Girl Generation: Support to the Africa-Led Movement to End FGM/C. The session entitled “FGM Laws and Human Rights Principles: Ensuring Access to Justice for All Women and Girls,” focused on advancing legal frameworks and rights-based approaches to end FGM. @AmbStesfamariam underscored #Eritrea’s continued commitment to the complete elimination of this harmful practice. She further pointed out that: •Eritrea’s experience demonstrates that progress requires a holistic approach that combines strong legal frameworks, sustained public education, and community ownership of change; •Eritrea’s 2007 Proclamation criminalizing FGM/C, together with nationwide grassroots mobilization led by @NUEWEritrea and community leaders have contributed to significant progress; •FGM prevalence among girls under 15 declined from 18.2% in 2014 to 2.3% in 2020, demonstrating the impact of sustained national leadership and community driven change. Equally important; social attitudes are shifting; •Increasing numbers of communities are publicly declaring the abandonment of FGM, while both women and men are becoming active advocates for its eradication. These results place #Eritrea among the countries demonstrating that determined national leadership combined with community-driven mobilization can produce meaningful progress in eliminating harmful practices and strengthening access to justice for women and girls. #CSW70 #EndFGM #GenderEquality

Thank you, @Eritrea_UN, for organizing an enlightening event on the enpowerment of women and girls at this year‘s CSW. Germany welcomes the efforts undertaken by Eritrea in enhancing women‘s participation in the justice sector, and the significant progress made in fighting FGM.

The 🇩🇪 NGO Archemed has been providing humanitarian medical aid for children by supplying medical professionals, hospital equipment, training and infrastructure since 2010 in Eritrea 🇪🇷. In Asmara and three other locations Archemed supports nearly 20 different medical and technical projects. The goal is to further reduce maternal and child mortality. More than 8000 operations have been realised in the International Operation Center for Children in Asmara, IOCCA. Around 300 doctors, nurses, technicians travel to 🇪🇷 each year on a voluntary basis to implement these measures.

German FM Johann Wadephul has ruled out German participation in military action against Iran. He said a joint E3 statement mentioning “defensive action” only means German troops in the region could defend themselves if attacked. German forces are in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon.

Today, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Mr. Toralf Pilz  visited the 30 MW PV project in Dekemhare, Eritrea. The powerplant, financed by the AfDB & implemented with int.partners, incl. Germany, will provide citizens & industry with affordable & green electricity.
