I condemn the act in the strongest terms. Military authorities are conducting a criminal probe of the matter and will take appropriately harsh disciplinary action against the offender. While Christians are being slaughtered in Syria and Lebanon by Muslims, the Christian population in Israel thrives unlike elsewhere in the Middle East. Israel is the only country in the region that the Christian population and standard of living is growing. Israel is the only place in the Middle East that adheres to freedom of worship for all. We express regret for the incident and for any hurt this has caused to believers in Lebanon and around the world.

I imagined her as if she were my own daughter, and I asked myself: what did this innocent child do to deserve losing her arms? I then moved closer to the bed and asked a man standing beside her what had happened. With deep sadness, he told me that she had been playing happily in front of their home, holding her toy—he pointed to the necklace in her hand. But suddenly, the ground shook due to the Israeli bombardment. We were then shocked to learn that Sarah’s father had been killed, and she was injured. Now she lies on the hospital bed, awaiting the amputation of her arms—along with the necklace she was holding. My heart could not bear the scene. I left the place and found a corner to cry in anguish. I do not know when these wounds will ever stop in Gaza. I am a human being before I am a journalist.
