As we conclude our Strategic Reflection in @RubavuDistrict, I am reminded that this moment comes at a deeply meaningful time for me & for all of us at @HDIRwanda. On 13 March 2026, we marked 20 years of existence - two decades of #AdvancingHealthRights in Rwanda🇷🇼

As we leave Rubavu, our resolve is stronger, grounded in shared values, sharper alignment, and a renewed commitment to advancing health and human rights. We carry forward the insights, energy, and collective responsibility to deliver impact, strengthen systems, and continue building an institution that leads with integrity and purpose. #AdvancingHealthRights

On his part, Board Chair Dr. Joseph Nkurunziza emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional culture, shared ownership, and collaboration to sustain HDI’s impact in a changing environment. “We must continue to build an institution where ownership, values, and accountability guide how we work together and deliver on our mission.” - Dr. Nkurunziza said. #AdvancingHealthRights

As we conclude our Strategic Reflection in @RubavuDistrict, the past two days have reinforced HDI’s position as a leading voice on health and human rights, aligning Board and Management on the 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, strengthening governance, risk management, safeguarding systems, and deepening institutional capacity to navigate complex issues in our society with clarity, accountability, and shared values. #AdvancingHealthRights

A significant part of the discussions this morning also built on sessions around safeguarding, #SEAH, and accountability, including a dedicated session presented by Christian Garuka, HDI Board Member, reinforcing the critical role of governance in upholding safeguarding standards and institutional integrity. This underscores HDI’s commitment to ensuring that leadership at all levels actively champions safe, ethical, and accountable programming. #AdvancingHealthRights

The reflection session fed directly into today’s focus on strategy execution, 2026 priorities, and accountability, alongside strengthening HDI’s strategic positioning and influence within the #Health & #SRHR ecosystem. Building on yesterday’s conversations on risk, governance, and institutional alignment, today's sessions are sharpening how HDI translates strategy into action, ensuring relevance, impact, and responsiveness in a changing environment. #AdvancingHealthRights

Day 2 of HDI’s Strategic Reflection opened with a recap session led by Deputy Executive Director @dusengeariane, creating space for participants to reflect on Day 1 discussions. Through an interactive online platform, participants shared key takeaways, feedback, and expectations, capturing reflections on governance alignment, safeguarding, risk management, and strengthening the Strategic Plan as an evolving framework. #AdvancingHealthRights

Building on this, Day 1 also focused on strengthening alignment around HDI’s strategic direction and risk landscape, with Angela Griffith (@AngelaG355), Director of Strategic Development, leading sessions on the 2025–2029 Strategic Plan and the review of the organization-wide risk matrix to assess key risks and mitigation measures. #AdvancingHealthRights

As we wrap up Day 1 of our Strategic Reflection, Deputy Executive Director @dusengeariane highlighted the key objectives of the session: reflecting on HDI’s 2025 achievements, strengthening the interface between governance and management, and building capacity to anchor the organization in critical areas of its niche. #AdvancingHealthRights

“We must ask ourselves: are we still relevant in the context we operate in? How do we adapt and align with changing realities? It starts with us - believing in the work we do at HDI and the impact it has.” - Dr. Nkurunziza said, underscoring the need to confront perceptions around the organization’s work, noting that context, culture, and beliefs often shape how it is viewed among certain groups, but that should not stand in the way of the important work HDI does. #AdvancingHealthRights

In his remarks, HDI Board Chair Dr. Joseph Nkurunziza (@NAREDirector) highlighted the evolving landscape in which organizations like HDI operate, urging participants to reflect on sustainability, relevance, and how to adapt to changing funding dynamics. Today, in @RubavuDistrict, Health Development Initiative (HDI) is convening its Board and Management for a Strategic Reflection, marking a critical moment as we advance with the implementation phase of our 2025–2029 Strategic Plan. HDI continues to advance health and human rights in Rwanda, with a strong focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Today, HDI Rwanda hosted a delegation from the Malawi Ministry of Health and Sanitation @health_malawi for a learning exchange on equitable access, service delivery, and sustainable HIV/STI response. At the Nyamirambo Outreach Centre, HDI showcased its comprehensive key population programming delivering integrated, community-led and harm reduction services tailored to the needs of Key Populations and demonstrated how people-centered approaches can effectively reduce barriers to care. #HealthSystems #InclusiveServices.
