hpa & the idea of ultimates are such a great allegory for the societal issues that pressure students into this sort of situation where they quite literally would rather lose their lives than continue on as a typical student. hajime's version of this was deciding to become izuru.

expanding on this. i think the reason it makes me feel so devastated is because hajime was already so lovely. nothing was wrong with the person he was. but the society he lived in put those with talents on such a pedestal that he genuinely believed he was worth nothing without it

if i think too much abt hpa hajime & how he resented himself for not being an ultimate so intensely that he was willing to erase his entire existence and become a lab rat for an institution that did not care about anything but the power talent gave them my stomach starts to hurt
