@alexmoneypenny Managing your squad but making sure you utilize the 25-man squad and really thinking about more as a 30-man squad, with five slots for academy players, is probably the right way to go. Schedules aren’t going to get shorter. For those that lack depth, throwing comps is right way.

"Out there" thought. I do wonder how much playing one game a week is helping United. I think massively, and I think they'll probably make UCL. In this hyper league of super athletes, repeat sprints, heavy focus on duels & second balls, that rest/prep time feels like it's becoming even more rewarding, so it makes me think about how certain teams in the upper mid table may approach all four competitions in the future. If you're Newcastle, Villa etc... do you ever think about just THROWING cup competitions to, in essence, play one game a week as United are doing? Use the academy etc. It wouldn't be popular, and I don't like it, but it wouldn't surprise me. From a financial perspective, if you progress all the way to the FA Cup final and win it, you'll have banked about £3.5m [thefa.com/competitions/t…] And if you win the Carabao Cup, you get about £200k all in. [888sport.com/blog/football/…] Say you get UCL, you get £16.1m just for qualifying, then £1.8m per win in the league phase. Maybe the size of squads mean there will always be players who need cup minutes, but for example in Newcastle's 3rd round EFL Cup game v Bradford, they played Bruno G, Thiaw, Botman, Joelinton, Gordon, Livramento etc. If you're a team whose whole financial model relies on being in European places in the league... doesn't it make sense to bank on 38 league games where you're playing one a week, rather than possibly getting into Europe by winning the FA Cup/Carabao? Again, it wouldn't be popular, but I bet some execs are watching closely and thinking about it.
