Final update: The LyondellBasell facility experienced a process upset, which resulted in a release of flammable product that was ignited by the pilot light of a flaring operation. The incident concluded with no reported injuries.

Final Update - 6 AM: The industrial fire that occurred last night at the LyondellBasell facility is out. The scene was transitioned back to LyondellBasell between approximately 2:00–3:00 AM this morning. The main fire has been extinguished. Continue to expect activity in and around the facility. The facility continues to manage the incident and Harris County Pollution Control has air monitors in place, with no actionable readings reported at this time. Harris County OEM remains in the LyondellBasell Emergency Operations Center and continues to serve as a point of coordination with the City of La Porte. All City of La Porte emergency response resources returned to service around 2:00 AM. We appreciate the quick response of all emergency personnel involved. The facility is still working to determine the cause of the incident. This will be the final update from the City of La Porte unless significant developments occur.

3/13/26, 12:45 AM: Update on industrial fire at 10801 Choate Rd. The La Porte Office of Emergency Management remains in contact with LyondellBasell. First responders and industrial response partners will remain on scene for the duration of the event. Flames and smoke may continue to be visible to the community, but no action is needed at this time. Harris County Pollution Control will continue conducting air monitoring in the area surrounding the facility. At this time, no actionable readings have been detected.

Update 11:20 PM: Harris County Pollution Control is conducting air monitoring in the area surrounding the facility. No actionable readings have been detected at this time. First responders remain on scene, and our office continues coordinating with the facility as crews work to bring the incident under control.

@HarrisCoPC is air monitoring. There is no action needed from the community at this The company is on scene, Pasadena FD and OEM, CIMA, LaPorte FD and OEM, and the HCSO.

PCS is on scene of the incident and will be collecting readings. In the meantime, we have multiple monitoring stations throughout the area, and the data is available through our CAMP data portal. pcs-harriscounty.hub.arcgis.com/pages/camp

Our office is aware of an industrial fire on Bay Area Blvd. The La Porte Fire Department is on scene. No action is required from the community at this time.
