In first round action at the 2022 VHSL Class 6 State Wrestling Championships Hayfield Senior Steven Salazar won by major decision 19-6

Hayfield’s senior 138 pounder Christian Johnson-Hunte upended Edison’s 4x district champion Dylan Bierne 5-2 to win his first regional title, after finishing 2nd last year

Hayfield senior Mateo Hernandez won his second Regional Championship by defeating the defending state champion Tristen Corbin of Robinson HS 6-3 with a last second reversal and back points!

The MatHawks have advanced 7 wrestlers into the finals of the National District Tournament. At 106 lbs freshman Cristian Rojas has placed 3rd. Sophomores Aiden Suganuma and Grant Tran placed 4th at 120 and 126 pounds respectively. Senior Malaki McConaha placed 3rd at 182 lbs
