Schools do not thrive because of programs or plans… they thrive because of the passionate educators in the building.

My learning from a tough week: “When tough times come, it is particularly important to offset them with much gentle softness. Be a pillow.” Vera Nazarian This was one of the toughest weeks I have had in a long time. I am emotionally and physically exhausted, and when that happens, massive self-doubt enters. And the best way I try to deal with insecurities in myself, is do my best to lift others. To not let my rough week become a rough week, day, or moment for someone else. But that it isn’t to say I bottle things in. I am find more people in my life that I trust to share my struggles with openly, and their ability to listen, provide guidance, either or both, has been really helpful. My advice for a bad day? Go to bed early, to start new the next day. It doesn’t always work but it is sometimes the exact reset I need. 3 More Things I Learned This Week:
1.Never take criticism too seriously, or praise. You can learn from feedback, but it is essential to learn to evaluate your own work. 2.Adulting is hard. Real hard.
3.Today was the first day I haven’t exercised in a long time because my body is yelling at me for rest. In the past, not doing one good habit would lead me to ignoring all or most of my good habits at the same time. But those other habits when you are struggling in some area of your life, will help you recover quicker than you could imagine. At least, that is what I am telling myself. Have a great week ahead! To everyone that lifted me this week, you have no idea how much of an impact that made on me. Thank you.

"When our Ss leave our schools and enter life, they will no longer be judged by standardized tests. They'll be judged for the rest of their lives by two things: 1️⃣ The quality of the person they are. 2️⃣ The quality of work that they do." -Ron Berger 🎥 bit.ly/474ZKqp

It’s end of year report card conference time & one question I ask scholars is: “during our time together, what did you learn about yourself?” One student’s response: “I learned how to learn. I learned how I learn best.” Job done. Bucket filled. Grateful for these conversations.

A leader is great not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others. Leading through empowerment means leading through a high belief in people that allows you to connect with them on a deeper level. Remember: a person of influence empowers people!

I often share this image as a provocation for teachers of the negative impact and unforeseen consequences of our assessment practice on student wellness. Is our assessment practice doing more harm than good? What do we want to let go of? And what do we want to do more of?
