I dreamed that I stood in a valley, and amid sighs,

And Heaven knows I'm miserable now
My view on David Lynch is that it's a misreading of his films to argue that he's satirizing the cozy, comfortable life of suburbia. In Blue Velvet, the world of picket fences and flowers is real. But evil is also real. The point is that maturity requires knowledge of both.
